Malaysia is back to host the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games), which marks the sixth time the country will host the prestigious sporting event, and 16 years since it last hosted in 2001.
The 29th Southeast Asian Games, also dubbed as Kuala Lumpur 2017, has released the official theme song for this year titled “Tunjuk Belang” which literally means showing off your true colours.
“Belang” means ‘stripes’ in Malay, so it makes sense as the mascot for this year’s SEA Games is Rimau, a Malayan tiger.
The song is performed by former Too Phat member maliQue, Lan from Azlan & The Typewriter and monoloQue, who is also the composer and producer of the song, which mixes traditional and modern music elements, making it a unique and refreshing rock song with nusantara influences.
The SEA Games will take place from 19 to 30 August 2017 with 405 events in 38 sports to be featured in the games.
The opening ceremony will take place at the Bukit Jalil Stadium on 19 August 2017.
