A certain Malaysian party’s decision to ban the hit Spanish song “Despacito” sung by Luis Fonsi and made famous by Justin Bieber, certainly has gotten many people from inside and outside the country – well, dumbfounded.

A female-centric political party in Malaysia had highlighted that the song lyrics features sexual content, but they failed to realise that a big percentage of the listeners in Malaysia don’t even understand the meaning of the title, much less the whole song.

The call for ban has shocked the nation leading to plenty of news coverage from local and international media, putting Malaysia on the world map again for the wrong reasons, and now, even famous British talk show host James Corden has highlighted the issue in his show.

“I’ve heard the song 2 thousand times, and I still have no idea what it’s about,” he said on his show, “The Late Late Show with James Corden” on 2 August 2017.

“But this is the big difference between the U.S. and Malaysia. In Malaysia, the government bans obscene content. Here, the president tweets it,” he continued.

Corden went on to suggest that those who are tired of hearing the song can move to Malaysia.

However, though most of the news’ headlines said that Malaysia has banned the song, it is actually only the government radio stations and channels that have actually banned the song.

Other private mainstream stations still play it, because they know that if you decide to ban that one song which no one understands, you might as well not put anything else on air since most of the songs nowadays have suggestive content, and they’re all in English!
