Brace yourself anime lovers, a live-action adaptation of "Your Name" is now in the works in Hollywood and "Star Wars" director J.J. Abrams is producing it!
The Hollywood Reporter brought words that Paramount Pictures and Abrams, under his banner Bad Robot Productions, will be teaming up to produce the remake alongside Lindsey Weber and Genki Kawamura, the latter who also worked as a producer on the original 2016 movie.
Oscar-nominated Eric Heisserer is attached to pen the screenplay for the live-action remake.
"Your Name" is a film created with the innate imaginations of a Japanese team and put together in a domestic medium," said creator Makoto Shinkai.
"When such a work is imbued with Hollywood filmmaking, we may see new possibilities that we had been completely unaware of. I am looking forward to the live-action film with excited anticipation."
A sci-fi love story, "Your Name" revolves around teenage boy Taki and teenage girl Mitsuha who, despite living in different parts of Japan, discover that they can swap bodies with each other. Separated by time and space, the two must find a way to meet in order to stop an incoming disaster.
Earning USD355 million worldwide when it was released last year, the movie is now Japan's fourth-highest grossing film of all time and is the highest grossing anime film at the global box office.
This will not be its first live-action adaptation, however. As previously reported, "Your Name" has also garnered the attention of the porn industry. The porn parody "Your Rope" (a word play on the original title) was released back in June this year starring JAV (Japanese Adult Video) actress Ayane Suzukawa.
