Singapore Mandapop singer JJ Lin will be singing a Mandarin version of the viral hit “Despacito” along with original singer Luis Fonsi.
After taking home four big awards at the Latin Grammy 2017 recently, Fonsi has revealed that he is setting his sights on the Asian market with a Mandarin version of the song that will be released in two weeks’ time.
“I sang a little bit in Mandarin. The song has become a worldwide phenomenon and singing it in Mandarin is an honour,” Fonsi told AFP.
Fonsi also said that he will be touring Asia sometime next year.
“Despacito” is a reggaeton tune by Fonsi featuring Puerto Rican rapper Daddy Yankee. The single was an instant hit in the Latin music scene, but became a global hit when a remix featuring Justin Bieber took it into the U.S. mainstream market.
The song has various remix versions including Salsa featuring Victor Manuelle, EDM featuring Major Lazer and MOSKA, Portuguese featuring Israel Novaes, and more.
At the 18th Latin Grammy Awards, the song won four major awards including Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Urban Fusion/Performance, and Best Short Form Music Video.
