Mention Extreme, and the first and probably only hit (at least most of the younger generation) would know is their sweetly acoustic ballad, "More Than Words".
But that song is not the only great hit that should define the American rock band who has been around since 1985 and proudly draws its musical influence from heavyweights Van Halen, Queen, Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith.
However, it is undeniable that the song - which is very far apart from the band's original sound that incorporates fuck and metal - has managed to withstand the passing of time despite it being described as "a blessing and a curse" due to its overwhelming success and recognition worldwide, thus distorting the very image of the band.
But what made the hit a hit in the first place? Did you know that the song was written due to the phrase of "I love you" being too common and meaningless?
"People use it so easily and so lightly that they think you can say that and fix everything, or you can say that and everything's OK. Sometimes you have to do more and you have to show it—there's other ways to say 'I love you'," Extreme guitarist Nuno Bettencourt was once quoted as saying.
Well whatever it is, we can't deny than we absolutely love "More Than Words", more than words can describe.
