Tis' the season to be jo-
Oh wait, Christmas is still two months away!
What we really mean is Spook-tober is here and what better way to celebrate all things scary than spending the entire month watching all the great horror offerings exclusively on Netflix !
In case you haven't heard, one particular show is taking the internet by storm, so read on for our top 5 best horror shows on Netflix this month of Halloween, to find out!
5. The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
Remember the 1996 series "Sabrina The Teenage Witch"? Well this re-imagined series based off the new comics is NOTHING like that - except for the fact that our lead witch is still named Sabrina, and she has a speaking black cat called Salem. This darker "Sabrina" ala-"Riverdale" is a chilling tale indeed, just check out the trailer for hints of... dare we say... Satanism? *GULP*
4. Haunted
From the guys behind "The Purge" franchise comes "Haunted". Are they real accounts from people having experienced the supernatural first-hand, or are they all merely fiction? Whatever it is, this is surely a goosebumps inducing series where each episode will tell of a 'true' unique horror story.
3. Hold the Dark
This is an interesting one. The cast alone is enough to warrant a watch; Jeffrey Wright, Alexander Skarsgård, and Riley Keough. Wright plays a naturalist-wolf expert who is called to a small Alaskan town by the mother of a boy who was killed by wolves. Soon, more weird things start to emerge about the town's history and the people themselves who have more layers to them than seen on the surface. This is a slow burn movie, so be patient and get engrossed in the story line. It's not a jump-scare kind of film, so the faint-hearted can also give this thriller a watch.
2. Apostle
Speaking of thrillers, "Beauty And The Beast" star Dan Stevens plays a drifter who goes to a small isolated island to locate and possibly save his sister who is in a religious cult. This period film set in 1905 starts off as a fast-paced thriller and slowly turns into supernatural myth-ism. What's interesting to note is that "Apostle" is directed by Gareth Evans, best known for his Indonesian action thrillers "The Raid" movies. Things can get pretty gory in the 'stabby' sense, so be warned.
1. The Haunting of Hill House
That's right. We're pretty sure you've seen at least one mention of "The Haunting of Hill House" on social media. The big hit this Halloween belongs to none other than this 10-episode series starring Michiel Huisman ("Game of Thrones"), Carla Gugino ("Gerard's Game") and more familiar faces. The story follows the Crain family who in 1992 moved into a haunted mansion, told in a series of flashbacks by the present day adult children who are still haunted in their own ways. This gave us multiple sleepless nights and we're still trying to finish the series one day at a time!
