Three girl groups join iKon in Phase 1 of “Wkndfest Vol. 1: K-Pop Edition”

A couple of weeks back, K-Pop fans in Malaysia received the good news that iKON will be returning to the country, though this time it won’t be just the YG boyband taking the stage as they will be performing as part of the lineup for “Wkndfest Vol. 1: K-Pop Edition”.

The music festival is set to be held at this time and place:

Date: 1 September 2019 (Sunday)

Time: 2pm-11pm

Venue: Axiata Arena

As the event promises to deliver 10 hours’ worth of fun, it’s no surprise that there are 7 K-Pop acts performing on that day.

Joining iKON in the Phase 1 of the event are girl groups Mamamoo, the quartet well-known for their powerful vocals; Momoland, the nine-member group formed through 2016 reality show “Finding Momoland”; and (G)I-dle, the six-member group who debuted last year.

Phase 2 performers have yet to be revealed. There are three acts expected for the second phase.

More K-pop idols will be announced for the music festival.

Wkndfest, the brainchild of Khairul Anwar (Wkndfest Managing Director), Amirul Hafiz (Wkndfest Executive Director) and Shahrin Kamaruzaman (Operation Director), is set to bring together music lovers from all around Malaysia to enjoy live music events from different genres every year. 

“Wkndfest Vol. 1: K-Pop Edition” will kick off the 3 Wkndfest series that the trio plan to hold throughout 2019-2020, focusing on K-Pop, Hip-Hop and Pop.
