Celebrities may have bigger and prettier houses to stay stuck in during COVID-19 lockdown or quarantine, but they get bored same as us commoners. To overcome their boredom, while entertaining the world at that, most of them have turned to music. We’ve seen Gal Gadot and friends’ “Imagine”, let’s see what other Hollywood celebs are singing or listening to while staying at home.
“chill beats to quarantine to” – Will Smith
That self-descriptive title says it all. Versatile singer-actor Will Smith dropped these lo-fi beats so that his fans who are stuck at home like him have a chill song to listen to during quarantine or social distancing. Like most musically-inclined actors, since he can’t be on set filming movies now, Smith turns his focus to entertaining through music instead. He’s also been actively updating his Instagram with tons of hilariously edited videos. Being an entertainer is really in this bad boy’s blood.
“Stay Away” – Randy Newman
Legendary musician Randy Newman, who’s composed for big screen titles like “Marriage Story”, the “Toy Story” franchise and “Meet the Fockers”, came up with a song that perfectly sums up what should, or should not, be done during social distancing. Stay away, wash your hands and don’t touch your face are some of what Newman is reminding everyone to do. The video he shared on his YouTube also had a donation link for the Ellis Marsalis Center for Music, which aims to “broaden opportunities for underserved children and young musicians in New Orleans' Ninth Ward”.
“Need You” – Emanuel (with Idris Elba)
The music video’s description on YouTube lists actor Idris Elba as creative director. Rightfully so, as he started the social media campaign #NeedYou2020, a collaboration between him and Canadian R&B artiste Emanuel, just hours after the latter’s debut single was released, asking his Instagram followers to submit photos or videos for the “inspirational collage” (a.k.a. the music video above) he was making for the song. Aside from this, Elba’s Instagram is also peppered with songs he’s been working on while being quarantined after he was tested positive for COVID-19 last month.
“The Quarantine Song” – Adam Sandler
He’s not just the ‘wedding singer’, he’s apparently quite the quarantine singer too. Funny man Adam Sandler debuted his “The Quarantine Song” on Jimmy Fallon’s “The Tonight Show”, joking about how him home-schooling his kids might not be good for America but at the same time, also giving a serious shoutout to the frontliners who have been working hard to help everyone during the pandemic. He later teamed up with Fallon for another coronavirus-themed song, “Don’t Touch Grandma”. Look that one up, it has some pretty solid advice buried in the hilarious lyrics.
“Bored in the House” – Tyga x Curtis Roach
This is it, this is everybody’s lockdown anthem, thanks to the super catchy (and super accurate) hook by Curtis Roach. When the unsigned Detroit rapper posted the short but addictive tune on his social media, he probably didn’t think it’d go viral enough to become the unofficial anthem of the lockdown caused by the global COVID-19 pandemic. But it sure did after rapper-actor Tyga (“Once Upon a Time in Venice, “Boo! A Madea Halloween”, TV’s “Scream”) reached out to him for a collab track. Check out the music video for it, filmed in the rappers’ respective residences – because, lockdown.
