With most of this year’s film festivals shifting online due to the pandemic, Singapore is taking the same initiative with its upcoming Singapore French Summer Festival (SFSF).

The inaugural online French film festival, a partnership between the Embassy of France in Singapore and Shaw Organisation, will be streamed on the newly launched digital platform, KinoLounge by Shaw Theatres.

“The creative industries have taken many innovative initiatives to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Singapore French Summer Festival illustrates the deep-rooted cultural ties between France and Singapore, partners in happy times as well as in more challenging times.

“As the world’s borders are still waiting to open up, we are glad that this festival will allow the public to travel and wander in different realities and culture,” said the Ambassador of France to Singapore, Marc Marc Abensour, in a press statement.

A total of 16 titles have been selected for the film festival, an eclectic mix of animated and live-action films of various genres to cater to a wider audience.

Among these are new releases such as “Queens of the Field”, “The Lost Prince”, “#Iamhere” and “The Bears' Famous Invasion Of Sicily”, and favourites like “The Big Bad Fox and other Tales”, “Beauty and the Beast” and “Ballerina”.

The screenings will also include Q&A sessions with the filmmakers and cast.

Most of these movies will remain accessible beyond the festival dates on Le French Cinema – a space dedicated to French films on KinoLounge.

Singapore French Summer Festival (SFSF) will run from 14 to 31 July 2020.
