Sarawak's Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah was recently revealed to have made a personal apology to singer Dayang Nurfaizah.
The apology came after some members of the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) demanded that the Sarawak-born performer undergo another COVID-19 screening test after she arrived in the state despite already having done so prior to her departure. The singer will be performing in her home state |
"There are certain cases where one is exempted from going under quarantine and can stay for 72 hours, with the condition that they will have to undergo a screening test while they were in the peninsular. However, some staff at the SDMC had tested Dayang for the second time and put her in quarantine even though she had already done her part," he said.
It is noted that Dayang has already undergone her screening test on 25 December to go to Sarawak, and was already given the authorisation for the exemption from the Chairman of the SDMC Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah himself.

The singer was in her hometown as part of an invitation from the state to perform at the upcoming New Year show, "Sarawak New Year Countdown 2021" on 31 December. The said concert at Stadium Perpaduan is limited to 1,000 invited guests only as we are strictly complying to the standard operating procedures (SOP).
“The event will be broadcast live on TV Sarawak and UKAS Facebook pages starting 8pm, so that all Sarawakians will be able to watch the show”, Datuk Abdul Karim added. “There will be a fireworks display outside the stadium at midnight as well to usher in 2021 in a big way”.
