The third IKEA outlet in Malaysia is set to open in Penang during the third quarter of 2018, as confirmed by Ikano Private Limited, the IKEA franchise holder in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.
The exact location of the outlet will be in Batu Kawan and site works have already started, Penang Property Talk reports.
“The IKEA vision is to create a better everyday life for the many people,” said Ikano’s Managing Director, Christian Rojkjaer.
“We expect to do that by bringing our affordable range of functional home furnishings to the people of Northern Malaysia in 2018, along with hundreds of solid jobs and spin-off opportunities for the local community.”
In 2014, Ikano and the Aspen Group teamed up to purchase 245 acres of land from the Penang Development Corporation, with plans to transform the vast land in Batu Kawan into Aspen Vision City, a new metropolis which includes condominiums, office towers, an international school, a Columbia Asia Hospital, a 24-acre park, and of course, IKEA is also part of the development!
In the meantime, IKEA also plans to open an outlet in Johor Bahru within the next two years.
