2021 will be an interesting year for Glenn Close indeed, as in just two days, she has been nominated in the Best Supporting Actress and the Worst Supporting Actress categories for the same film.

The actress, who plays the role of Bonnie "Mamaw" Vance in the Ron Howard movie, "Hillbilly Elegy" was recently named one of the nominees for the Academy Awards’ Best Supporting Actress category for the said movie, along with Maria Bakalova ("Borat Subsequent Moviefilm"), Olivia Colman ("The Father"), Amanda Seyfried ("Mank") and Yuh-Jung Youn ("Minari").

It also marks Close's eighth Oscar nomination, with the actress yet to win any.

However, it is noted that "Hillbilly Elegy" itself was largely panned by critics, with the Golden Raspberry Awards (also known as The Razzies) already making it official by nominating the movie - as well as Close herself - for this year's awards, with the actress "competing" for the title of Worst Supporting Actress along with Maddie Ziegler ("Music"), Lucy Hale and Maggie Q ("Fantasy Island"), and Kristen Wiig ("Wonder Woman 1984").

It is noted that there have been other examples of actors being nominated for both awards at the same time, from Melissa McCarthy nominated Oscars’ Best Actress and the Razzies’ Worst Actress in 2019, to Sylvester Stallone getting Best Supporting Actor and Worst Supporting Actor in 2004 from the two awards.

However, all of them were nominated for two different movies released in the same year. Close is the only nominee to receive both nominations for the same movie.

She was previously nominated at the Golden Globes for her role in the movie, but lost it to Jodie Foster ("The Mauritanian").

The 93rd Academy Awards will be held on 25 April.

Melissa McCarthy received Razzies' Worst Actress nomination for "Happytime Murders" and won it in 2019
