Malaysian indie movie, "Belaban Hidup: Infeksi Zombie" is making Malaysia proud again, after winning another international award.

The Malay-Iban language movie, directed and produced by Sarawak-born Ray Lee, with the script written by his (also Sarawak-born) wife, Misha Minut, recently won Best Film and Best Horror Film at the International Symbolic Art Film Festival held in St Petersburg, Russia.

"This is a victory for all of us. Thank you for the recognition. We hope this success will be an inspiration to other young filmmakers not to give up on producing creative works to make the nation proud,” said Lee following the victory.

The movie, which was produced by Hornbill Films Sdn Bhd and Harry Aziz Entertainment Sdn Bhd made a splash a couple of weeks ago when it won the Horror and Science Fiction category in the feature film genre at the 2021 Singapore World Film Carnival (WFC).

It also caught the Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's attention, who stated that the film's success prove that the country has no lack of talents in producing great works.

On the other hand, Lee revealed that the movie is also nominated Best Feature Film at the upcoming Los Angeles Marina Del Rey Film Festival (LAMDRFF).

“We are also anxiously waiting whether we can get through the nominations for several other international film festivals such as Paris Film Festival, Hollywood Blood Horror Festival and the Swedish Film Award,” he added.

"Belaban Hidup: Infeksi Zombie" revolves around a group of orphans being locked away for an experiment by a mad scientist and the Iban warriors battling zombies. It stars Pekin Ibrahim, Altimet, Pablo Amirul, Anna Melissa, Cassidy Panggau and Indonesian singer Tegar, as well as Slovakian-born actress Katrina Gray.

The movie is set to be screened by the end of this year, to be distributed by Metrowealth Pictures.
