Controversial Malaysian singer Namewee has done it again. The singer is once again at loggerheads with law officials following the release of his latest music video, “Oh My God”.

The singer, real name Wee Meng Chee, was arrested upon his arrival at Kuala Lumpur International Airport yesterday, Bernama reported.

ACP Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said that the 33-year-old was detained at 3.30pm yesterday to assist with the investigation of Wee reportedly being disrespectful to Islam by releasing the aforementioned music video, which he posted to his Facebook recently along with a message asking the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to take a look at it.

The controversy surrounding the music video begun last month, when the singer, along with a Taiwanese band called Nine-One-One, used the floating mosque in Tanjung Bungah, Penang as a location for its filming.

His negative portrayal of Islam in said video prompted locals to lodge police reports against the singer. However, Wee was unable to be detained earlier as he was out of the country.

He later released another video defending himself, saying that he was merely promoting religious harmony through the music video.
