Lee Chong Wei bags BWF Male Player of the Year award again!

Malaysian Badminton Superstar, Dato’ Lee Chong Wei, has bagged the best male player of the year award from Badminton World Federation (BWF) for his remarkable achievement in 2016.

The Badminton ace outmatched the likes of China's Chen Long, Denmark's Jan O Jorgensen and even his own compatriots; men's doubles pair Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong, to win the award.

Chong Wei received the award from BWF deputy president, Gustavo Salazar, at the Players’ Reception and Gala Dinner held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Monday.

This was according to BWF official Facebook posting that says:-




The Penang born badminton player have had a remarkable year; winning three super series title in Malaysia, Indonesia and Japan.

He also managed to beat his arch rival, Lin Dan in the semi-finals of the Olympics and bring home the Olympic silver medal which is also his third Olympic medal in total.

But Chong Wei is no foreigner for these awards as he previously won the same accolade back in 2013, having also won the title in 2009, 2010 and 2011.


According to BWF, many others were also jubilant on the night such as Japan's Misaki Matsutomo and Ayaka Takahashi who jointly won the Female Player of the Year award and India's Pusarla V Sindhu who copped the inaugural BWF Most Improved Player award.

Malaysian Women Double’s player Woon Khe Wei also emerged as a winner when she was awarded as the Best Dressed player for the night.
