Mobile phone application, Shazam, which has over billions of download, has revealed the most Shazamed (it’s officially a word now) tracks of 2016!
For those of you who are still in dark over this, Shazam is a music identifying app that lets you record any music that is playing and let you know the title and the name of the song.
In a year where music was more mumbling than words with songs like “Panda” by Desiigner, Rihanna’s “Work”, Grammy nominated “Broccoli” and the ever golden “PPAP” by Pikotaro ruling our airwaves, it makes perfect sense on why we need apps like Shazam.
The diverse list of songs contains some explosive hits of 2016 with the top three going to Sia’s “Cheap Thrills” with 12.5 Million Shazams, Kungs & Cookin’ on 3 Burner’s “This Girl” with 12.3 Million Shazams, and Electronic Dance Music (EDM) star Alan Walker’s “Faded” with 12 Million Shazams respectively.
Mike Posner’s house music “I Took a Pill in Ibiza (Seeb Remix)” came fourth followed by Twenty One Pilots “Stressed Out” at fifth and The Chainsmokers “Don’t Let Me Down” at number 6.
Notable mentions in the list would be Lukas Graham’s hit single “7 years” and Justin Biebers “Love Yourself” which ranked in at 7th and 10th respectively.
“Don’t be so shy” by Pop singer Imany and one of the feel good songs of the year, DNCE’s “Cake by the Ocean” finished 8th and 9th respectively.
Shazam also revealed the top Shazamed artist and also top Shazamed songs by category with the top artist going to rapper Drake.
Drake’s “One Dance” was the most Shazamed hip-hop tracks and Coldplay’s “Hymn for the Weekend” was the most Shazamed rock track with Sia’s “Cheap Thrills” being the most Shazamed pop track.
Weekend’s “Starboy” is the most Shazamed Rap and Ballad (R&B) song and Sam Hunt’s “Take Your Time” is the most Shazamed country song.
