Malaysian football hero Mohd Faiz Subri will be receiving RM150,000  in the form of incentives from the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) as a form of appreciation for his achievement at the 2016 FIFA Awards.

The 29-year-old mid-fielder who is the first Malaysian, as well as Asian to win the prestigious Puskas Award for his outstanding swerving free-kick, will receive RM100,000 from the Ministry of Youth and Sports while the remainder will come from FAM, Bernama reports.

“On behalf of the government I would like to congratulate Mohd Faiz for winning the award. It was a historic moment for Malaysian football and the first by a Malaysian,” said Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

Apart from receiving the generous amount of incentives, Faiz Subri has also made it into the Malaysia Book of Records for becoming the first Malaysian to win an award from FIFA.

“I wish to thank everyone for supporting me and voting for me. This win is for football in Malaysia,” said the Kedah-born player when he arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

Mohd Faiz Subri’s amazing free-kick on 16 February 2016 had gone viral on social media and drew global attention, making him the player with the most beautiful goal of the year at FIFA Puskas Awards 2016.
