Renowned Okinawan singer Rimi Natsukawa will be bringing her exquisite pop-folk songs to Singapore for the first time.
The Japanese songbird is most known for her 2001 single “Nada Sousou” (Tears Flow Endlessly), which was originally written and sang by pop rock band Begin, but achieved popularity through Natsukawa’s cover version.
“Nada Sousou” is one of Natsukawa’s biggest hits of all time, having been certified as a triple platinum ringtone by the RIAJ, sold over 680,000 copies, and is adapted into a film of the same name.
The song has also been covered in various languages by international artistes such as American band Against the Current, Singaporean singer Joi Chua, Hawaiian Kealiʻi Reichel, Cambodian star Sokun Nisa and more.
Natsukawa is also popular among Mandapop fans as many of her greatest hits has been covered in the Mandarin language, some of the known ones include Emil Chau's “Flower Heart” 花心 (“Hana”), Fish Leong's “Insomnia” 不想睡 (“Shima Uta”), and Cyndi Wang's “Fly” 飞吧 (“Warabigami”).
The 43-year-old singer has also received high praises and accolades from critics and musicians for her beautiful interpretations of Teresa Teng’s Japanese hits like “Toki No Nagare Ni Mi O Makase” (我只在乎你 I Only Care About You), and the evergreen “Eien no Tsuki”(月亮代表我的心Moon Represents My Heart).
Due to her unique music style and angelic voice, Rimi Natsukawa has built a loyal and broad fan base within and outside Japan, with several best-selling albums over the years, and sold-out shows in different parts of Asia, which include Hong Kong, Taiwan and Shanghai.
