Pop punk princess Avril Lavigne is certainly no stranger in Japan, in fact, she is a huge fan of the country, and now, she will forever have a special connection there, as her sister Michelle Lavigne (now Michelle Kohama) has just gotten married to rock star Ryota Kohama, the bassist of famous J-rock band ONE OK ROCK.

The news has surprised many of Avril’s fans, especially her Japanese fans after she shared a photo of her sister with the bassist on her social media with the caption, “Congrats to my little sister Michelle and Ryota on their marriage. Wishing you both all the love and happiness in the world!”
Avril has crossed paths with ONE OK ROCK several times. In 2013, they both appeared on the same Japanese music TV show, and met up again when the Japanese band performed in Canada last year.

She was even recently featured in one of the band’s single, “Listen” from their eighth studio album, “Ambitions” which was released last month.
Avril Lavigne is a huge star in Japan and of course, she too loves the country.
She released a J-pop dubstep song titled “Hello Kitty” in 2014 as a tribute to the Japanese culture and fans, and it also represents her obsession with Hello Kitty.
Though the song was generally panned by music critics, being labelled as racist and offensive to some, most of her Japanese fans loved it and didn’t seem to care about the minor details in the music video.
Avril also contributed two cover songs to the Japanese animated film “One Piece Film: Z” including Nickelback’s “How You Remind Me” and Joan Jett’s “Bad Reputation”.
