Penang’s famous Line Clear Nasi Kandar has entered the Top 10 of World Street Food Masters list, ranking at number nine.
Last week, at the World Street Food Congress (WSFW) in Manila, Philippines, the iconic Nasi Kandar chain was the only Malaysian street food to make it into the top 10 ranking out of 50 other street food hawkers.
“Arguably the most famous Nasi Kandar stall in Malaysia. They occupy a side lane, not even a stall, with their selection of masala fried chicken, fish head curry, lamb, sambal prawns, eggs, spicy greens, etc, all lined up along the wall in stainless steel pans, you just devour them with rice. Turnover is very high and they are very loud and friendly, as are their customers”, read the WSFW description of the 24-hour restaurant chain.

Meanwhile, the street food that got the top five spots include Hill Street Tai Bakwa Chor Mee from Singapore, Franklin’s BBQ from Austin, Texas, Che Paek Pu Oh Voon Sen (baked crab with glass noodles) from Bangkok, Aling Lucing Sisig (pig’s head and liver) from Pampanga, Philippines, and Pak Sadi Soto Ambangan from Jakarta.
Other Malaysian street food which made it into the Top 50 list are; Siam Road Char Kway Teow from Penang, Fauzi Nasi Kerabu from Terengganu, Guan Heong Biscuit Shop from Perak, Nyonya Mee Siam Donald, Lily’s from Melaka, and Jalan Kuli Satay also from Melaka.
