Events Not To Be Missed: June 2017

June is arriving soon, however, compared to previous months, there seems to be a lot less events in Southeast Asia this time around, and we believe that this has something to do with it being the month of Ramadan.

As Southeast Asia consists of several Muslim majority countries like Malaysia, Brunei and Indonesia, it is naturally expected for the region to have lesser (nightlife) events this month as a sign of respect to the Muslim folks.

But nevertheless, there are still tons of fun concerts and festivals going on for the non-Muslims to enjoy and participate, and they are quite huge!

These Japanese car commercials are super hilarious!

The Japanese are always known for their unique, hilarious and sometimes bizarre way of promoting certain brands, just look at their commercials – they’re always funny and crazy but the message is always delivered.

And now enter the Daihatsu Wake commercials which has been going viral!

Daihatsu Wake is a kei car, in other words – a Japanese category of small and compact vehicles with an engine capacity under 1 litre and is very fuel efficient.

From the compilation of Daihatsu Wake ads that we have watched, the main protagonist who is referred to as An-chan, keeps trying to make adjustments to his non-Daihatsu car to make it more convenient, but he does it in the most bizarre of ways, like cutting off the roof top of his car or putting a tatami mat on top of it.

Every time he does something drastic to his car, his friend would then point out that the features are already available with the Daihatsu Wake.

So basically, the commercials are trying to point out that despite Daihatsu Wake is categorised as a small and compact vehicle, it is still very roomy and can fit in a lot of items including bicycles, cooler boxes, and is also suitable for picnics.

But the main attraction of the commercials is the silly reactions of the characters, especially the dramatic An-chan who keeps trying to come up with new over-the-top features that the Daihatsu Wake doesn’t have, but hilariously fails every single time.

Check out the hilarious compilation of ads featuring An-chan’s many silly attempts!

KFC has finally found its first Filipino Colonel Sanders, and he is actor Ronaldo Valdez!

Last week, a video posted by KFC Philippines has been going viral on social media, showing veteran actors Ronaldo Valdez, Leo Martinez, and Pen Medina auditioning for the role KFC’s Colonel Sanders.

Though each of them is unique and funny in their own way, many have already guessed that the role would fall to Valdez due to his uncanny resemblance to the real Colonel Sanders.

The 69-year-old veteran actor whose film and television career spans five decades, took his oath as the colonel in the new commercial shared by KFC’s Facebook page.

Standing among hundreds of people holding fried chicken legs and chicken buckets, he recited, “I, the Colonel do solemnly swear to fulfill my duties to the best of my ability. I promise to uphold the fresh, hand-breaded quality in each piece of KFC original recipe chicken. Because in KFC, all parts are created equal.”

“I promise to protect the 11 secret herbs and spices that make my fried chicken unique in all the land. I pledge to push the boundaries of fried chicken innovation and lead the way for this nation of fried chicken lovers. So help me gravy!” he exclaimed as the crowd cheers.

Leo Martinez and Pen Medina also appear in the video, watching Valdez take his oath on TV while eating fried chicken.

This twerk-like dance, Squatshit, is going viral in Indonesia!

A weird viral video showing three girls performing some new form of twerk (?) has been spreading wildly on the internet for the past three days.

The video was shared by a Malaysian Facebook page called “Nokharom morahkon” on 30 May 2017, and as of today, it has accumulated 1.3 million views, 14 thousand shares, 11 thousand reactions and 10 thousand comments – which were mostly negative, by the way!

Anyway, the video shows three girls in baju kurung with two of them don the tudung (headscarves), implying that they are Muslims.

The girls are shown squatting while shaking their hips in an up-and-down motion at various public places, including in a mall, in the middle of the road, on top of a car, at a petrol station and underneath a truck. (What the?!)

Based on the background of the locations, it is safe to assume that the video was recorded in Indonesia, so the girls could be Indonesians as well.

After some research, we found out that this form of “dance” is known as the “Squatshit Challenge” which is currently going viral in Indonesia for some unknown reason.

The challenge is usually accompanied by the song “Bum Bum Tam Tam” by Portuguese rapper MC Fioti playing in the background.

For now, we have no idea what’s the purpose behind this challenge, but a lot Indonesian youngsters are really into it. Check it out!

Rain’s new biopic “Uhm Bok-dong” is halfway done

South Korean superstar Rain will soon be starring in an upcoming South Korean biographical drama film based on the famed cyclist Uhm Bok-dong, and the shooting of the film is almost halfway done.

“I'm shooting a new movie called “Uhm Bok-dong”. Obviously, it's based on the life of the Korean cyclist of the same name during the Japanese colonial period of 1910 in Korea,” said the actor during our interview with him at the recent Viral Fest Asia in Bangkok.

“The shooting of the film is about 40 percent done, and it would most likely go on until mid-August,” the actor added.

Uhm Bok-dong became a national symbol of pride for the Koreans when he defeated Japanese cyclists and won the championship in a bicycle race which took place during the Japanese colonial rule of Korea.

Rain mentioned that this is the first time that he has taken on this kind of role, and he hopes that he gets to try on more challenging roles in the future.

“The role that I'm playing now is a character that I've never tried playing before and it is very challenging and interesting, so I'm sure that it will be a new experience to the audience as well.”

“I really enjoy working with the other actors on the film, and I hope that in the future I get to try on other different kinds of new and unique characters,” the 34-year-old singer-cum-actor said.

After filming is done, Rain will be focusing on releasing his new album which is set to be released by the end of this year.

“If I’ll be staring in a new drama, the album is expected to come out in December, if not, it could be around mid-November,” said Rain whose real name is Jung Ji-hoon.

Meanwhile, the King of Pop also noted that he is embarrassed to be called King of Pop by his fans even though he feels honoured at the same time.

“Apart from me, there are a lot of other well-known artistes in the entertainment industry. I’m just a shy person who tries to act and sing in my own style, and with own ability. I’m just helping the others to help promote K-Pop to the rest of the world.”

“So rather than being called the King of Pop, I rather be known as one of the artistes who contributes to the industry,” he continued.

“Raven’s Home” teaser brings nostalgia and hilarity

$
0
0

“That’s So Raven’s” highly anticipated sequel, “Raven’s Home”, has finally unveiled its teaser trailer which had hit 90s kids right in the childhood feels!

The trailer focuses on the titular character Raven Baxter played by Raven Symone, along with her best friend in the whole world, Chelsea Daniels, played by Anneliese van der Pol – where both of them are divorced mothers, raising their children in a house together.

The dynamic duo is as crazy as fans remember them to be and the hilarity that made the show so special and memorable to fans has thankfully remained intact.

In the new series, things get a little complicated when Raven’s son Booker (Issac Ryan Brown) begins to show signs that he has inherited his mom’s psychic gene, which no doubt will cause even more hilarity and misunderstandings.

The series also stars Navia Robinson as Booker's twin sister Nia, Jason Maybaum as Chelsea's son Levi, and Sky Katz as their neighbour, Tess.

Also, Raven and Chelsea is not the only familiar faces you’ll see in the series.

Recently, it has been revealed that the father of Raven’s children will be played by none other than Jonathan McDaniel better known as Lil’ J, who played Raven’s first love and steady boyfriend Devon Carter in “That’s So Raven” series.

Apart from that, it has also been hinted that Rondell Sheridan and T'Keyah Crystal Keymáh, who played Raven’s parents Victor and Tania, as well as Kyle Massey who played Raven’s brother Cory, will make special appearances on the show.

However, the only main cast who won’t be returning to the show is Orlando Brown, who played Raven’s other best friend, Eddie Thomas, and the reason Brown won’t appear on the show is because he had a feud with Symone by the end of 2016.

Nevertheless, we’re expecting more familiar faces to appear on the series like Adrienne Bailon who played Raven’s rival Alana, Bobb'e J. Thompson who was Raven’s neighbour Stanley, and Raven’s mentee Sydney played by Sydney Park.

“That’s So Raven” is the first show in Disney channel history to make the 100 episode mark which was later surpassed by “Wizards of Waverly Place” with 106 episodes, and the first Disney Channel series to produce a spinoff which was “Cory in the House”.

“Raven's Home” will debut on Friday, 21 July 2017 on the Disney Channel.

Katy Perry's wears outfit with photos of Manchester victims as tribute

Today was the day of Ariana Grande's One Love Manchester concert which was held for the purpose of raising money for the families of the victims of the terrible incident that occurred recently.

Stars from all over the globe travelled to Old Trafford to take part in the fundraiser. Of course, Ariana Grande herself was there and so was Justin Bieber, Coldplay, Imogen Heap and many others.

One of the performers was Katy Perry. Her performance of "Roar" and "Part of Me" were so emotional and entrancing that most people missed a certain detail on her outfit.

The star got on stage in a white coat lined with feathers and when the time came for her to take it off and reveal the form-fitting white dress underneath, only the most eagle-eyed fans could catch her personal tribute to the victims of the terrorist attack.

There was a colourful collage of photos of the Manchester victims who died in the May 22 attack around her collar, wrists and on the back of her outfit.

A lot of people are touched with what she's done. One fan even tweeted: "Katy Perry has photos of the victims on her dress. She's honestly an angel."

But others think that this might be taking it too far. "This is really walking the line between tribute and exploitation," someone commented on Facebook.

This is quite similar to people's reaction to Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth's song, "See You Again" which was played in tribute to the late Paul Walker at the end of 2015's "Furious 7".

Many thought that they were exploiting the emotions of Walker's fans, but many more felt that the tribute was the perfect goodbye.

What do you think? Do you think Katy Perry's collage-outfit was appropriate for the occasion or do you just think that it's the thought that counts?

Review: "Orange is the New Black" Season 5 is CRAY!

$

0

[DISCLAIMER: There are spoilers for Season 4 below, however there are NO spoilers for Season 5.]

First of all, oh boy! Netflix how could you leave us hanging with a finale like that for Season 4?!

Anyway, since we are recovering and in serious withdrawal mode, the folks at Netflix have given us early access to watch the ENTIREEEE Season 5 of "Orange is the New Black" before it is released on Netflix worldwide this 9 June 2017.

So, here's our spoiler free review of Season 5 of "Orange is the New Black", a series revolving around the inmates and staff of the infamous women's prison, Litchfield [yeah, mandatory brief synopsis for those of you living under a rock!].

Moving its tone further away from its established dark comedy to get a little more darker, the first few episodes OITNB Season 5 certainly anchors itself to be more heavy with its overall direction especially in terms of where it picks up - immediately after the tragedy that took place in the second last episode of Season 4, and the beginnings of a prison riot in the finale.

We thought Poussey's (Samira Wiley) death in the penultimate episode of Season 4 would be the apex of the climax, but apparently that was only the catalyst that leads to the very end of Season 4 which then sets the stage for Season 5.

RIP sweet Poussey :'( Now you can chill forever.
Alright, we know that Season 5 will be kicking off with a full-blown riot and interestingly, the ENTIRE, yes entire season of 13 episodes is set over three days full of trepidation and nail biting tension.

With that in mind, the pacing of OITNB 5 is definitely faster this time around to maintain its exhilarating tone, as we wonder will any more deaths of our favourite inmates occur due to the belligerent event that is now plaguing Litchfield prison.

We had to borrow Titus Andromedon of "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" to help capture our anxiety.
However, we do miss the comedic moments that have been quite generously sprinkled here and there in the past seasons - ya know, as per how creator Jenji Kohan intended - but in this case, it is understandable that there are lesser instances of that here due to the gravity of the plot.

The shining star of Season 4 that we just can't keep our 'crazy eyes' from is Danielle Brooks (Taystee), who keeps us on the edge with her scheming plans and thus we can't help rooting for her cause as the seeker of justice for Poussey's wrongful death.

Piper (Taylor Schilling) might have been the lead that introduced us to the craziness of prison life and its occupants, but for Season 5, it seems like her character is constantly out shined by the rest. But we don't mind because...
Danielle Brooks (Taystee) is the ONE to watch this season!

Season 5 of "Orange of the New Black" is certainly the darkest season yet, and that might not appease everyone who initially tuned in to the show due to it originally being a dark comedy, but fans of the show WILL still continue to watch it due to their loyalty and attachment to the Litchfield characters and to discover their fates.

Once thing's for sure, Season 5 has more direction and purpose than Season 4. And for that we are...

EXCITED!

WATCH the trailer for "Orange is the New Black" Season 5!

Festival Review: Viral Fest Asia 2017, Bangkok - Day 1

The sophomore year for Viral Fest Asia (VFA) – Asia’s first ever music festival which celebrates digital music evolution – ended with a blast over the weekend, featuring some of Asia’s top performers in the region including Rain, AKB48, Exile the Second, Son Tung M-TP and more!

The event which was initially planned to be a one-day only festival, then transformed into a two-day affair due to popular demand, and we, at TheHive.Asia were there to experience the event and to divulge about everything that happened during the two-day fiesta!

Kicking off on Friday, 2 June 2017, VFA Day 1 was held at the open field of Thailand’s first ever entertainment and retail complex, Show DC, a high-end shopping mall filled with various famous celebrity brands from South Korea.

Though the festival started around 7pm, the crowd had begun to gather at the venue as early as 5pm to fill themselves up with some street food at the night market before the show began.

The night market featured more than 20 food stalls and drink stations as well as food trucks, selling a variety of artistic dishes, from local delicacies to Asian delights and western eats.

Some of the unique brands found include I Fry, Betagro Sausage, Pad Thai Truck, Bloody Drink, Qool and more.

What’s so unique about this night market is that the food here can only be purchased using a special wristband that also works as the festival’s entry pass. The wristbands need to be loaded with cash before purchasing anything, and the amount can always be added on at the top up station.

As soon as the night got darker, throbbing music can be heard playing at the main stage as Japanese dancer B-girl Nao opened the festival with her sick and slick dance moves. Her performance was then immediately followed by fellow Japanese musician, Ayur, who delivered a wonderful piece on the piano.

After the performances by the two Japanese talents, the first runner-up of “Vietnam Idol”, Bich Ngoc wowed the crowd with her powerful voice.

Thai pop rock band Noisy Sure then took over the stage and played some of their hit songs before another fellow Thai performer, Hugo, impressed the audience with his acoustic guitar performance and country-style music.

As the performances were going on at the main stage, some other fun activities were also taking place all around the festival venue.

There was a mechanical bull ride, dunk tanks filled with beautiful ladies, human bowling in zorb balls, cosplay appearances and plenty more!

When we got back to the main stage, we saw the crowd dancing along to Vietnamese star Min’s EDM pop tunes. After singing two songs, the next performer to take up the stage was Malaysian rock band, Mad August, who also delivered two songs and one of them was their most famous hit, “Hey, I Don’t Know” (喂,我不知道).

Chinese singer Hao Ren then performed some slower tempo themes after an adrenaline-rush performance by Mad August and he was joined on stage by Malaysian songbird Pricilla Abby.

Things then started to pick up its pace again when Indonesian EDM trio Weird Genius appeared at the side stage and put on several familiar mainstream tunes and added their very own flavour to them.

Some of the remixes they played include Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You”, Zedd’s “It Ain’t Me”,  Alessia Cara’s “Stay”, The Chainsmoker’s “Closer”, Coldplay’s “Something Just Like This”, Clean Bandit’s “Symphony” and more.

After performing all their unique remixes, the group then presented their first original single, “DPS”, which is inspired by the true beauty of Indonesian Culture, especially Bali. The song even featured the sound of Indonesia's traditional musical instrument, the Gamelan!

Back to the main stage, the upbeat performance from Weird Genius was continued with a rather different upbeat show and in the cutest possible way!

Japanese girl group Juice=Juice began to skip around in their adorable colour coordinated uniforms, singing some of their famous songs like “Romance is on Its Way” (ロマンスの途中), “Goal ~ Tomorrow, It'll Be There” (Goal~明日はあっちだよ) and more.

Fans of the Japanese girl band were so enthusiastic as they danced along to the beat and delivered some synchronised cheers and shouts to each of Juice=Juice’s song.

Thai band Somkiat then wrapped up Day 1 with a couple of mesmerising ballad tunes by midnight.

Overall, VFA Day 1 was really epic and full of fun as it features a diverse range of music genres performed by a variety of music artistes from all across the region.

Check out the video highlight below and stay tuned for Viral Fest Asia, Day 2 review!

One of the biggest and most popular names from Japan, AKB48 (stands for Akihabara 48) was in Bangkok recently for a performance at the second edition of Viral Fest Asia.

At the festival, the group performed with their Bangkok-based sister group BNK48 for the very first time.

As AKB48 is divided into several teams like Team A, K, B, 4 and 8, the ones that came to Viral Fest Asia are members from Team 8 which consists of Shimizu Maria, Takahashi Ayane, Yoshikawa Nanase, Sato Akari, Mougi Kasumi, and Gyoten Yurina.

(L-R) Takahashi Ayane, Gyoten Yurina, Mougi Kasumi, Yoshikawa Nanase, Shimizu Maria, and Sato Akari.

The group admitted that this is their first time in Bangkok as a group, even though some members have been here several times for personal reasons.

“We're very happy that we get to meet our sister group BNK48 once again and also to perform together with them on stage for the first time,” said member Mougi Kasumi.

“We hope that we can deliver a great performance to our fans along with our team mates from BNK48,” she added.

Though started with 48 members, AKB48 now has now expanded to more than 130 members aged from early teens to mid-20s.

They have several sister groups within Japan itself like SKE48 (Sakae), NMB48 (Namba), HKT48 (Hakata), NGT48 (Niigata), and more.

The brand has even expanded to outside of Japan where spinoff groups like JKT48 (Jakarta), BNK48 (Bangkok), MNL48 (Manila), and TPE48 (Taipei) were created.

The reason why the group has so many members and spinoffs is because producer Yasushi Akimoto wanted to form a girl group with its own theatre that can perform daily so fans can always see them live.

This is so that the group can rotate performances and perform simultaneously at several events.
BNK48 was created on 12 February 2017, and their performance at Viral Fest Asia was their debut performance as a group.

Yesterday, Watsons Malaysia had posted a 15-minute long video in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya celebration.

The video which was part of its Watson Legenda Cun campaign has since been removed after receiving tremendous backlash from netizens for the use of blackface.

The commercial is about a rich merchant played by Kamal Adli, who holds a talent audition in hopes of meeting the mysterious girl with the beautiful voice, played by Ruhainies who keeps appearing in his dreams.

The rich merchant was initially shocked to find out that the girl has dark skin but chose her as a winner nonetheless.

The girl then reappears as a beautiful woman with fair skin and told the merchant that she was only testing him, and the merchant was relieved to know that she is not really dark skinned.

The ad obviously didn't sit well with many people, having been labelled as racist, sexist, insensitive and tasteless.

Watsons Malaysia has issued an apology today, claiming that the video was not intended to promote racism as it was based on a Malay folklore.

“Watsons Malaysia is aware of the post that has been made viral on social media.
A post on 7th June 2017 regarding a video by Watsons talks about the legend of Dayang Senandong. The Legend of Dayang Senandong is a Malay folklore about a lady who was born cursed with black skin but blessed with a beautiful voice. The legend depicts that the king fell in love with Dayang Senandong because of her voice and inner beauty. The curse was lifted after Dayang Senandong gave birth to the king’s child.
We stand firm on the belief that unity and fairness plays an important role, and we respect people from all nationalities. The video was shot to highlight the Legend and its moral values of inner beauty and that true love exists. We are sorry that some of our fans feel offended by the video which was not our intention. We take feedback from our fans seriously.
Your continued support will be greatly appreciated and any feedbacks from you will help in improving our services.
Maaf Zahir dan Batin.
Thank you.”

The ad featured a number of Malaysian celebrities including Amber Chia, Uqasha Senrose, Sasha Saidin, Raja Ilya, Thanuja, Luqman Hafidz and more.

Meanwhile, rival Guardian Malaysia too has posted a somewhat similar ad for its Raya campaign yesterday.

The 4-minute ad depicts a similar storyline where a prince was saved by a lady with a lovely voice named Bawang Merah.

However, due to her bad skin complexion, she was regarded as not beautiful.

But the prince doesn’t mind her skin, stressing that it is the heart that counts, even though later on he took his bride-to-be to Guardian to purchase some beauty products.

With the help of the products, Bawang Merah turned beautiful inside and out, and the two lives happily ever after.

The ad by Guardian Malaysia has garnered mostly positive reception from netizens who described the video as creative and funny.

Festival Review: Viral Fest Asia – Day 2

The first day of Viral Fest Asia 2017 (VFA 2017) went on smoothly and ended right on schedule, but the same cannot be said for VFA Day 2.

Following the first day, the second night of the festival featured a bigger line-up of performers and had more people compared to VFA Day 1, and we understand why.

VFA Day 2 started one hour earlier then VFA Day 1, which was at 6.30pm and it was because Day 2 featured more artistes than Day 1.

But nevertheless, many of the music-loving folks still came earlier than expected and this time, it’s not just because they wanted to fill their stomach before the festival started but instead, they wanted to grab the best standing spot at the main stage since big names like Rain, AKB48, Exile the Second, Burin Boonvisut and Son Tung M-TP was slated to perform for the night.

The second day of the event also started right on time, as Taiwanese YouTuber Saint kicked off the night with his latest song “An Li” (安儷).

He was then joined by his wife Dodo on stage and the two sang a sweet duet “Don’t Want to Fight” (真的不想嘴) co-written by the both of them. After the song ended, the two locked lips on stage, and the crowd went “Aww…”!

After the couple’s sweet performance, Taiwanese rapper AmoGood got on stage to perform his latest hit “Flirtatious B****” (妖豔賤貨). After performing only one song, Thai singer Aphiwat Ueathawonsuk or better known as Stamp took over the stage and performed a soothing English track titled “The Devil”. He then continued with his best Thai hit “OMG” (โอมจงเงย) and all the fans sang along to the song while waving their glow sticks uniformly.

Soon after Stamp left the stage, Japanese idol group Juice=Juice went on the stage to perform for the second time, and this time, they did a medley of some of their best hits while also including some of the songs they sang on Day 1.

Also, to honour their Thai fans, Juice=Juice performed the Japanese version of the Thai song “Row Mah Sing” by Thai singer Bird Thongchai, which is known as “Cha Cha Sing” in the Japanese version. The song was previously covered by Juice=Juice’s senior group, Berryz Kobo.

Thai social media sensation Bie the Ska took over the stage as soon as Juice=Juice was done, and he sang his hit song from last year titled “Saiyor” (สายย่อ), which is known for its repeated hip-shaking dance moves and addictive beats and lyrics. So, this had gotten the audience to move along to the music, shaking their hips!

Bie the Ska then introduced Namewee to the stage. Namewee performed one of his most famous tracks from his “Asia Most Wanted” album which is the “Thai Love Song” (泰國情哥). The song has a couple of Thai words in it, and is sung in Thai-style. It also expresses Namewee’s love towards Thailand and its culture.

Namewee performed the song while wearing an outfit that looks like a Thai traditional formal suit. At the same time, he also wore weird-looking glasses just like he always does.

After his first song, Bie the Ska then joined him on stage again for the song “Thai Cha Cha” (泰國恰恰) which Bie the Ska was featured in.

Since Juice=Juice appeared, the pace of the festival had been very upbeat and full of energy, and it went on through the performances of Thai rap group, Rap is Now and Thai pop star Keng Tachaya.

Everything started to slow down a little when Korean cover girl group High Color appeared at the side stage and started to sing an acapella-ish rendition of Maroon 5’s “Sunday Morning”. Some of the crowd immediately ran over to the side to catch the four beautiful girls.

The harmony between the girls was truly beautiful, and we can see that the crowd really enjoyed it as they moved and sang along to the familiar music. But the slow pace music didn’t last for long, as the girls soon got up and covered Fifth Harmony’s high-energy anthem “Worth It”, and continued it with another energetic theme “Bang Bang” by Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj.

Back to the main stage, Thai jazz crooner Burin Boonvisut started to sing some of his iconic hits which many of his fans are familiar with as they began to sing along to each song. Using his sensual voice and charming charisma, the 40-year-old singer had gotten many of his male and female fans squealing with excitement

Burin’s performance at Viral Fest Asia was probably the longest out of all the performers as the Thai jazz icon sang a total of five songs including two saxophone solos. Nevertheless, the fans – especially Thai fans – thoroughly enjoyed his performance.

Moving on, South Korean Suran presented her newest hit “Wine/If I Get Drunk Today” (오늘 취하면) in her soothingly calming but slightly raspy voice. The song is from the singer debut EP, “Walkin”.

Suran then continued to perform more of her songs from her new EP. The next one she performed was “Loss” (쩔쩔매줘), another calming track and it was the first time she performed the song live. After that, she ended her performance with a faster song titled “1+1=0”.

As soon as Suran finished her performance, rain started to pour and many fans began to disperse and look for cover, while those with raincoats and umbrellas stayed at the open venue.

Some of the performers that performed during the rain are Thai rock band Slot Machine, Chinese boy band Bet-A, and Japanese dance pop girl group Flower.

However, while we were covering from the rain, we received report that two of Flower’s members had injured themselves on stage.

Due to this, Philippines sibling duo Ranz and Niana decided to pull out from the festival for safety measures as Niana is only 10-years-old, and the siblings are also dancers.

When the rain began to subside just a little, we managed to get back to the stage just in time to catch AKB48’s performance. The group sang three of their top-charting hits – “Heavy Rotation” (ヘビーローテーション), “Aitakatta” (会いたかった), and “Koisuru Fortune Cookie (恋するフォーチュンクッキー).

Their performance received a lot of cheers from the fans – especially male fans – and the cheers got even louder when they were joined by their Bangkok-based sister group BNK48 on stage.

After AKB48, the next one to grace the stage was Vietnamese pop star Son Tung M-TP. The pop prince started off with a remix version of his single “Lạc Trôi”, and then continued with “Em Của Ngày Hôm Qua” (You of Yesterday). During his performance, the girls went totally gaga over him, screaming and cheering which he responded with, “So cute, I really love you”.

Starting from Son Tung, the next two performances also got the ladies super excited as the next one to step the stage is none other than the King of K-pop, Rain.

Rain started his epic performance with “La Song” which was accompanied with sick dance moves by the 34-year-old singer himself. Throughout his performance, you can hear fans chanting “Jung Ji-hoon!” which is Rain’s real name. After that, Rain sang one of his older hits “It’s Raining”. During his performances, Rain occasionally gave his fans a strip tease.

Rain then performed another one of his old songs titled “Instead of Saying Goodbye” (안녕이란 말 대신). His 14-minute performance was ended with the song “Touch Ya” (터치 야).

As Rain exited the stage, the festival continued with the last act of the night from Japanese boy group Exile the Second.

The charismatic six-member boy band started off with their comeback single “Yeah!! Yeah!! Yeah!!”.

As the boys are also experienced dancers, they showed off a lot of amazing dance moves on stage. During the song, member Akira stripped off his top on stage, and this had gotten the ladies screaming and shouting for more, but alas, he had later put his jacket back on.

The group then closed the curtains of the night with their latest single titled “Summer Lover”.

As soon as the performance ended, confetti poppers went off, showering the audience at the festival and Viral Fest Asia wished everyone goodbye and goodnight.

Til next year, guys!
