"Extraction" director Sam Hargrave recently revealed that he is moving forward to working on the sequel to the Netflix hit movie despite the pandemic.

The filmmaker, who is set to return in the director's chair for the second film starring Chris Hemsworth, told Collider that while COVID-19 is very much an obstacle, they are continuing on the project as if the planned shoot in fall will go on as scheduled.

"Joe [Russo] is still finalising the script. We're all excited to read it. I've read different iterations, but I'm excited to read what he turns in. We're all looking forward to getting back in the saddle and hopefully bringing another action-packed adventure in the 'Extraction' universe," he enthused.

Prior to making his directorial debut through the said 2020 movie, Hargrave has worked with the Russo brothers in various projects and was a stunt coordinator on multiple Marvel Cinematic Universe films including "Avengers: Infinity War" and "Endgame".

"Extraction" was Hargrave's directorial debut

The original "Extraction" was a massive hit with viewers when it arrived on the streaming service last year, despite the mixed reviews from critics.

The movie - based on the Ande Parks graphic novel "Ciudad" - stars Hemsworth as mercenary and former army vet Tyler Rake, who is tasked to travel to Bangladesh to rescue the kidnapped son of a international crime lord.

For now, no details have been released as to whether the second film will continue from the first or to start another Rake mission altogether.

It is tentatively scheduled for release in 2022.
