Television hitmaker Shonda Rhimes recently admitted that she was surprised over the reaction of fans of her hit Netflix Regency Era series, "Bridgerton" over news that Regé-Jean Page will not be returning for season two.
The producer, known for shows like “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Scandal”, spoke about the departure recently in an interview with Vanity Fair, stating that she did not anticipate the reaction at all since that only happened if they killed a character that has been around for a while.
"We didn't kill him. He's still alive. Every season, our job is finding the right people and putting together this incredible, world-shifting romance. I don’t know that I expected this much of an explosion, given that every book [in the Bridgerton series] is a different romance," she said.

“We gave them their happily ever after! And now we have this next couple coming. And so yeah, I was like, whoa!”
Page surprised many last month when he announced that he will not return for season 2 of "Bridgerton" despite his co-star Phoebe Dynevor saying yes to it. Sources later revealed that Page wanted to focus on his movie career, and declined to accept the very hefty offer made by the producers.
Season 2 will focus instead on the love life of the Bridgerton eldest sibling, Anthony.
