The 5 best animated babies

$

Babies can be the most treasured or most terrifying thing that can happen to us. For Tim Templeton it would be the latter when the Boss Baby comes into his family.

Other than becoming the new center of attention of Tim's parents, Tim soon discovers that his new baby brother is also plotting in a scheme that would turn the world into a loveless one.

While it has been a while since we last saw a talking animated baby taking center stage in an animated feature, we have been going goo-goo-gah-gah over a few animated babies that have managed to melt our hearts.

Here are 5 animated babies that we remember growing up with.

Baby Herman from "Who Framed Roger Rabbit"

An adorable troublemaker who causes mayhem in the kitchen for all sorts of hurt to bunny rabbit, Baby Herman is cute and innocent until the cameras stop rolling. Smoking a cigar with one hand, and wrapping a woman in the other, Baby Herman is literally a gravely, deep voiced man trapped inside a baby's body. But even with his out-of-character swagger as a gangster, Herman is still a baby with a heart of gold who trusts that Roger Rabbit is incapable of something as evil as murder.

Boh in "Spirited Away"

Boh is the precious child of the evil witch Yubaba who takes after her mean streak. Oversized and overprotected by his mother who keeps him in an overstuffed nursery, Boh is eventually turned into a small (but still fat) rodent and taken away by Chihiro to meet his aunt Zeniba; the kindly twin sister of Yubaba. Alongside Chihiro's maturing over the course of her adventure, Boh also goes through his own path of growing up, discarding his entitlement and spoiled demeanour to be a likable companion to Chihiro. Eventually, Boh learns to stand on his own, and even defying his own mother for the sake of his friendship with Chihiro.

Diamond Destiny in "Storks"

Born out of mistake from the defunct baby factory of the Stork delivery business, Diamond Destiny is brought into the world from a wish by a young boy who wanted a sibling. Despite being a handful to deliver, a whimper from her is able to disarm even the most ferocious pack of wolves. It is thanks to Diamond Destiny that the storks realise that babies are the greatest gift that they can give to the world, and we only want to see them grow up to a happy life.

Jack Jack in "The Incredibles"

The newest addition to the incredible Parrs family who doesn't seem to have inherited any of his parents' or siblings' innate superpowers, Jack Jack seems to be just an ordinary baby living with an extraordinary family. When supervillain Syndrome thinks he can pull one last one by kidnapping Jack-Jack, he was making his gravest mistake. While Jack Jack has the least amount of screen time from the rest of the superhero family, he is instantly the most likable (and most powerful) of them all, manifesting a range of powers if all the members of the Fantastic Four...had a baby. We wonder if we will to see a grown up Jack-Jack who is in better control of his powers in "The Incredibles" sequel.

Boo in "Monsters Inc."

Probably the oldest on our baby list but not any less lovable (if not the most). In a world occupied by monsters that lurk in closets where the terrified screams of children are used as fuel for energy, Boo is accidentally brought into the world by the scariest monster of them all; the furry Mikey (also lovingly called 'Kitty' by Boo's baby talk). At first seen as a contamination until Mikey slowly grows to see her childlike innocent and dependency as a source of comfort, it is easy to grow attached to the human child that makes their separation one of the most bittersweet moments in Pixar's storytelling before "Up".

Let your body and soul move and groove to the best that jazz has to offer at the World Youth Jazz Festival 2017.

Exhibition of tiny "Game of Thrones" pencil sculptures in Singapore

To all "Game of Thrones" fans who were dejected by the delayed release of season 7: weep no more, because you are about to see Westeros from a whole new perspective.

From April until June, there will be a pop-up exhibition in Singapore featuring sculptures from your favourite show on a fairly unique medium – pencils!

The Game of Thrones: A Pencil Microsculpture Exhibition presents sixteen "Game of Thrones"-based microsculptures created by the famed Russian artist and sculptor, Salavat Fidai.
The sixteen pencils on display will be immediately recognizable to "Game of Thrones" die-hards. The microsculpture carvings include the Iron Throne, sigils from various houses, Cersei's new crown, the Three Eyed Raven, the Titan of Braavos, Brienne of Tarth's Oathkeeper, Jon Snow's Long Claw and many more!

Salavat Fidai is an expert in the field of miniature sculpture. He uses a craft knife and a 4x magnifying glass to create small but detailed and intricate sculptures out of the tips of lead pencils with diameter from 5mm to as small as 2mm.

So, rest assured that the "Game of Thrones" sculptures created by his hands will be nothing short of marvellous.

While admission for the exhibition is free, it only happens for a limited amount of time, between 22 April until 4 June 2017 from 11.30 am to 8.30pm at K+ Curatorial Space at Scots Square, Singapore.

In other words, just in time for the Game of Thrones season 7 premiere on 17 July.

Since their spectacular sold-out show in 2015, American pop punk band All Time Low will finally return to Manila for the “Young Renegades Tour” this August.

Since their debut in 2003, Alex Gaskarth, Jack Barakat, Rian Dawson, and Zack Merrick are now on a whole different league, having delivered anthem after anthem through six stellar studio albums.

Their world tour is to support their latest and seventh title-track “Last Young Renegade”.

From teenage pop punk youngsters to one of the scene’s biggest pop punk heroes and pioneers, the four-piece band has evolved so much since the released of their breakthrough single “Dear Maria, Count Me In”.

The band is known for their many punk hits like “Weightless”, “I Feel Like Dancin”, “Dear Maria, Count Me In”, “Damned If I Do Ya (Damned If I Don't)”, “Somewhere in Neverland” and more.

Organised by PULP LIVE WORLD, the upcoming concert will mark All Time Low’s fourth visit in Manila, Philippines.

So far Philippines and Japan are the only Asian countries announced for the tour.

“All Time Low: The Young Renegades Tour” in Philippines will take place on 22 August 2017 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Tickets will go on sale on 2 April 2017 at smtickets.com, priced at PHP6000 (VIP STANDING A&B) with raffle entry for Meet & Greet, PHP5500 (VIP STANDING C), PHP4500 (Patron), PHP3500 (Lower Box A), and PHP2500 (Lower Box B).

Amazon will come to Malaysia and Singapore late 2017

Malaysian and Singaporean shoppers will soon be able to shop at the largest online shopping mall in the world, as colossal e-commerce platform Amazon has tied up with affiliate partner iPrice Group to announce the launch of Amazon.my and Amazon.sg by end of 2017.

Millions of local and international products will soon be made available to both Malaysians and Singaporeans with same-day delivery service countrywide.

Apart from Malaysia and Singapore, Amazon will also expand its footprint in other Southeast Asian countries like Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines and Vietnam.

The news was announced on the official iPrice site on 1 April, and it comes with an elaborated April Fools’ joke featuring one of the first special merchants – the self-proclaimed Raja Bomoh Sedunia Nujum VIP, premiering the popular device named Bomoh Search Engine, Full Set.

The post read, “The product set is made exclusively for Malaysians and includes a pair of fresh coconuts, a pair of the “All Seeing Stick”, a wooden basket and a magic carpet. Made in Malaysia, the Bomoh Search Engine is compatible to traditional Bomoh spells and Harry Potter spells.”

At first, this may seem like fake news – a pure April Fools’ joke, but last year, Amazon had already revealed its plan to enter Southeast Asian market with Singapore as the first country to launch.

The truth will be unveiled at the annual AWS (Amazon Web Services) Summit on 18 April 2017 at One World Hotel as iPrice is set to reveal further details regarding the plan.

Shila Amzah loses lawsuit, to pay RM20,000

Shila Amzah’s lawsuit against an entertainment reporter alongside two others in relation to an alleged defamatory article published in Kosmo! on 17 September 2014, has been dismissed by the High Court in Kuala Lumpur on 31 March.

Judge Rosnaini Saub concluded that only one of the three articles in question is defamatory but the intention was not malicious and it contained fair review, furthermore the article was published under qualified privilege.

“The article written was found to have no malicious intention after facts were testified by several witnesses,” said the judge as quoted by Sinar Harian.

The court also ruled that as a celebrity, Shila, whose real name is Nurshahila Amir Amzah, must be open to all criticisms as her action can gain public attention.

The 26-year-old singer is required to pay costs of RM20,000 to the three defendants; Kosmo! entertainment reporter Maliah Surip, its editor and publisher, Utusan Melayu (Malaysia) Bhd.

On 16 January 2015, Shila and her company, Shila Amzah Entertainment Bhd, filed the suit, claiming that Maliah had written several articles which accused the singer of having the largest casino in the country as sponsor for her “Shila Amzah-Love Live in Malaysia” concert at Mega Star Arena on 13 September 2014, and also to address claims that Shila had not invited the Malay media for her concert coverage.

Why are people boycotting Netflix’s “Death Note”?

It seems like almost every movie nowadays is getting accused of something. Now Netflix who is adapting the highly popular Japanese series “Death Note” into an English movie is the latest one in line.

The upcoming supernatural thriller is under fire for supposedly whitewashing its cast.

The backlash comes after Netflix released the first trailer of the film which features American actor Nat Wolff in the lead role as Light Turner (original name, Light Yagami).

A petition to boycott the upcoming adaptation has been made on Care2 Petition, garnering almost 15,000 signatures thus far.

Apparently, fans of the beloved series were annoyed as most of the actors in the film are white actors, and so far, Masi Oka is the only Asian actor starring in the movie, whose role is still unknown.

“Death Note shouldn't be cast with all white actors - as it goes against the very soul of the story,” Sarah Rose who started the petition posted on the page.

However, similar to the “Ghost in the Shell” controversy, Japanese netizens aren’t too bothered by the casting choice as the movie is catered towards the English speaking audience anyway.

It has also been reported that Asian-American actor Edward Zo (“Insurgent”) was not picked for a role in the movie after auditioning for it.

“This would have been an amazing opportunity for an actor of colour, for an Asian actor, to take the global stage and break barriers and break stereotypes... (but) they were not looking to see Asian actors for the role of Light Yagami,” said Zo.

Though the online petition asks that Asian-Americans be given a chance in lead roles, the Japanese fans feel indifferent about the whole matter as that they would be more offended if a non-Japanese Asian played the role of a Japanese character.

“Honestly I’d much rather have a white or black actor in an American setting than a Korean or Chinese actor pretending to be Japanese,” one Netizen posted.

Anyway, Netflix’s “Death Note” is scheduled to be released on 25 August 2017 globally, will you be tuning in to watch?

Yuna, Zizan, Harith and Siti Nordiana battle a giant cat

Remember when we thought Yuna, Harith Iskander, Zizan Razak and Siti Nordiana might be appearing in a superhero film? Well, turns out it is just an advertisement for the Japanese uncarbonated soft drink brand, Calpis.

“I finally get to share this! My first time in a superhero costume on screen! Had so much fun working on it and loved my character!,” Yuna shared on her social media pages.

When a short clip showing the four stars clad in superhero costumes first surfaced on the internet, there had been speculations that they may be starring in a secret movie as there has been huge billboards all around Klang Valley featuring the four as superheroes with the headline, “Coming Soon, April 2017”.

We kind of knew that from the clip that it wouldn’t be a movie (our guess was it would have most probably been a music video), but the original uploader of the clip captioned the video in such a way to get everyone thinking twice.

Though it was only an ad, we have to admit that the one-minute long video was pretty cool as it features Yuna, Zizan Harith and Siti Nordiana, each representing different flavours – Yuna and Zizan represent the original flavour, Harith is mango, while Siti Nordiana represents grapes – fighting off an evil villain who comes in the form of a humongous but adorable cat.

All of them have various superpowers including self-multiplying, bubble shield, super speed, and bubble beam, and their costumes give off a “Fantastic Four” kind of vibe too.

We think that it would be pretty cool if they actually make a film out of this, because Yuna and Siti Nordiana look awesome as the first hijabi superheroines!

According to the website, the restaurant will be replaced by Lavo, an Italian restaurant and nightclub from New York but its opening date is yet to be announced.

Lavo from Las Vegas.

It is also reported that the closure of Sky on 57 and Flight Bar & Lounge is part of Marina Bay Sands’ “commitment to renew and refresh” their offerings.

“It has been a good seven-year run. The restaurant and bar are doing well with a unique dining concept and location. I have grown attached to this space, but I need to respect the management's decision to remodel it,” Quek says in a statement.

Nevertheless, Quek also hinted at future plans with Marina Bay Sands, which will be announced at a later date.
