Four-piece electronic pop act from Singapore, Disco Hue, has revealed the music video of their first single off their upcoming debut album.

Titled “Plastic Hearts”, the single features Singapore’s rap icon Akeem Jahat who is known in the country as well as Malaysia for his witty wordplay and infectious tunes.

Formed in early 2012, the band is made up of synthesizer Zie, vocalist Sherlyn, guitarist Rush and drummer Billy, but they only started to make waves in Singapore in 2016 with the launch of their debut EP, “Arcade”, which peaked at #2 on the iTunes Pop Chart in Singapore.

Largely influenced by acts like Daft Punk, CHVRCHES and Ella Riot, the band takes pride in composing electronic hooks, infectious melodies and groovy bass lines.

But unlike their 80s inspired retro EP, the new single delves into the early 2000s while offering equal measures of fluidity and punch, and also retaining their passion for synthpop.

The music video for “Plastic Hearts” pays homage to Aqua’s “Barbie Girl” music video while also incorporates a subdued version of the band’s trademark vibrant colour palette to match the depth and newfound maturity in the band’s lyrics.

“Plastic Hearts” charted in the top 10 of five Southeast Asian countries’ iTunes Alternative Chart, peaking at #3 in Singapore, #2 in the Philippines, #3 in Indonesia, and #7 in Malaysia.

Now "Power Rangers" is undergoing censorship review in Malaysia

$

After the dust has settled for "Beauty and the Beast", now another Hollywood blockbuster is finding itself facing the chopping block of the Malaysian Censorship Board (LPF).

Hollywood media, who had the chance to watch the movie before it comes to this side of the world, revealed that there was a small but significant gay scene in the upcoming superhero movie.

Due to this small scene, which involves Yellow Ranger Trini who is the first gay superhero in a big budget movie, "Power Rangers" is now next in line to be under the scrutiny of LPF.

Scheduled to be released tomorrow, the movie was suddenly pulled from cinema listings yesterday and concerned cinemagoers have taken to social media to enquire about it.

"We are still pending for the final report from LPF at the moment, hence we are unable to comment if this movie can or can't make it to release on 23 March. However, we certainly do hope that all goes well and it will be released as per schedule," said Grace Tan the Marketing Manager for TGV Pictures, the distributor of the film in Malaysia.

She also added that in the case that the movie should suffer any cuts, then TGV Pictures would have to consult with the movie's producer before taking the next step.

Yesterday, according to the LPF website, the movie was supposedly approved by LPF for screening in Malaysia under the classification P13, meaning that parental guidance is advisable for children below 13-years-old.

But now with the gay protagonist being highlighted widely by the media, and in light of the recent "Beauty and the Beast" issue, the film is now undergoing LPF's review.

Now, it just remains to be seen whether "Power Rangers" will still be screened in Malaysia on 23 March 2017 or it will be postponed as what happened with the recent "Beauty and the Beast" hullabaloo where the latter eventually got a 30 March release date.

The report from LPF is expected to be released this afternoon.

Super Mario Run finally arrives on Android!

Super Mario Run is finally available on Android, three months late since it came out on iOS back in December 2016 – but, better late than never!

The highly popular mobile game which is Nintendo’s first Mario game for smartphones, arrived on the Google Play Store on 22 March, even though the release date was originally announced to be on 23 March.

Along with arriving on a new platform, the app also received a massive update on iOS which added new content for both free and paid players.

Like the iOS version, Super Mario Run on Android shares the same pricing model as the iOS release – it is free to try, but accessing the whole game will require a one-time purchase of USD9.99.

Though Super Mario Run received generally positive review by critics, it is also often criticised for its comparatively high price in the mobile market, as well as its required connectivity to the internet.

Despite the criticism, the game became the fastest-growing app in iOS history, having been downloaded more than 50 million times during its first week of release.

After just over a month, its iOS version had raked in USD53 million worldwide.
