The winner for the Round 3 of VIMA Model Awards, a.k.a. the Fioris Award, goes to Sophie (Sofia Sanford) from Malaysia who has proved her worth as a great communicator and presenter.

Held at Glory Beach Resort Port Dickson, the third round required the models to participate in three different activities which tested them on their communication and presentation skills as well as their creativity and teamwork.

The first activity was a group presentation while the second activity was the talent night where the model showcased their special talents in the most creative ways.

The third activity was an individual presentation where the contestants talked about topics that are close to their heart.

“Throughout Round 3 we were also looking at how contestants were able to engage their audience. This round was very challenging because it required a lot of thinking and planning and the need to present a task within a given time,” said Rekha Menon, co-founder of VIMA Model Awards.

“However, in spite of the hectic schedule and the demanding criteria for each activity, the contestants developed a very close bond among themselves which created a lot of fun moments. On the whole, the weekend turned into an unforgettable experience for all,” she added.

12 contestants from Round 3 will move to Round 4, “The Thinker” which will test the contestants’ problem solving skills, quick thinking and intellectual discourse.

The Top 5 winners of Round 3 will receive the following:-
1.Sophie (Malaysia) – Crystal award and certificate

Designer condemned for shirtless ‘baju melayu’

Malaysian fashion designer, Anuar Faizal has recently become the hot topic of the week thanks to his bizarre design of the baju melayu, a traditional Malay outfit for men.

During the launch of Eid by Anuar Faizal two days ago where he showcased his Aidilfitri clothing collection, several male models were shirtless during the runway walk.

After uploading the pictures up on his own Instagram, Anuar Faizal has been receiving non-stop complaints from netizens for the shirtless concept.

Soon after that, Anuar explained that his baju melayu design was not meant to be shirtless, but it was merely incomplete.

His objective for making the models walk shirtless was to put on more focus on the slim-fit pants and instant samping designs.

Some of the things he wanted to highlight were that the pants are also complete with pockets and elastic band at the back of the waist.

Anuar said that if the models were to wear the pants or kain samping together with the shirt, than the audience wouldn’t be able to see the unique design of the two apparels, Sinar Harian reports.

Though some netizens approved of his points after he made his intentions clear, some still condemned Anuar saying that he shouldn’t reveal the model’s aurat on purpose even if it’s for fashion purposes.

The long-awaited music video of Yuna’s latest single, “Crush” featuring famous American R&B icon, Usher is finally out!

Directed by Daniel Carberry, the music video is shot in black and white at City Hall, Downtown Los Angeles.

Yuna and her mentor Usher are seen to be serenading each other via their romantic smooth harmonies as they sing about the joys of having a crush on someone.

The video also prominently puts the spotlight on two young kids, an Asian boy and an African American girl who seem to develop a crush on each other at first sight.

Some netizen comments towards the video on YouTube approved of the concept utilised by the director for choosing to deliver the video in black and white, as this metaphorically represents that love doesn’t matter what the colour of your skin is.

According to Yuna’s behind-the scenes clip of the video shoot, the song was inspired by some of the famous female singers from the 90’s like Alicia Keys, Aaliyah and TLC.

Released from Yuna’s upcoming third studio album “Chapters”, “Crush” is the lead single of the album and will be available via Verve Records on 20 May 2016.

Also, Yuna will be embarking on her American tour very soon, which will kick off on this Friday, 29 April 2016 in Washington DC.

The 29-year-old songstress recently also lent her voice to the global promotional campaign of the Rio 2016 Olympics.

Great news pancake lovers, one of Japan’s famous pancake café, Kyushu Pancake, will be heading over to Singapore very soon!

Made from seven different grains grown in Kyushu, the pancakes – or as the Japanese calls them, hot cakes – are less buttery and doughy compared to the usual western-style pancakes, and it has a soft texture and sweet smell thanks to the different grains.

Following its success in Japan and Taiwan, the Singapore outlet will be a 42-seater café, set to open on Wednesday, 11 May 2016 at Novena Regency.

The flour mix of the pancake is free from artificial additives, and is made up of quality ingredients like brown rice, pressed barley, purple rice and red glutinous rice from Japan, so it is definitely one of the healthier food options for those who are watching their diet.

Some of the recommended dishes at the outlet include the Kyushu Butter Milk Classic Pancake, Salted Caramel French Toast, Matcha Azuki Waffle, Egg Benedict Pancake and Matcha Montblanc.

The café is also expected to serve its signature drinks like Matcha Latte, Fresh Fruit Tea and Special Milk Tea.

Play Club KL is introducing “PLAY DAY OUT” (PDO) – a party movement created to offer party-goers a one-of-a-kind experience by sending them to iconic music festivals all over the world.

“We want to spread the good music around and to allow people to learn not just what’s happening on the radio all the time, but what’s next and what’s up-and-coming. PLAY DAY OUT is our way of extending our passion and love for the music and to keep the party spirit going for years to come,” said Dax Lee, Director of The Roof.

“All music festivals will be carefully handpicked by us and it must meet the criteria of having world class acts and renowned festival status. We will always be on a look out for the most spectacular music festivals and the best clubbing experience to ensure the sustainability of PLAY DAY OUT for years to come,” added Roen Cian, who is also the Director of The Roof.

The first edition of PDO will kick off with Ultra Korea this coming June, where revellers will get to party with a list of powerful headliners like Afrojack, Avicii, Axwell^Ingrosso and Martin Garrix from 10 to 12 June 2016 in Seoul.

That’s not all, PDO will also be associated with one of the biggest R&B idols of all time, Rihanna!

In collaboration with Universal Music Malaysia, lucky fans of Rihanna will be given an all-expense paid trip to catch Rihanna’s “Anti World Tour – LIVE in London” on 24 June 2016 at Wembley Stadium, London.

Furthermore, in July, PDO will have its very own version of “Road to Ibiza” where the itinerary includes visiting the most happening clubs in Ibiza town. Some of the shortlisted clubs include:

Pacha - Ibiza’s oldest and most well-known club with over four decades of party-planning under its belt.
Ushuaïa – One of the most famous venues for championing huge DJ names, amazing stage production and glamorous dancers.
Space Ibiza - Known around the world as one of the temples of EDM, emphasizing on bringing only the best and finest international DJs across the genres.
Ocean Beach Ibiza – Astonishing outdoor party venue with stylish, decadent pool parties, fiestas, fine dining, fashion shows, acrobatics and live performances.
Privilege - the 'World's Biggest Club’ with a Main Room like an aircraft hangar - that could fit the whole of the other clubs in Ibiza inside it.

So, to be eligible for the individual flyaway, PLAY visitors must purchase the selected twin bottle packages – Ultra Korea’s package or Rihanna’s package which comes with her latest ANTI album, while stocks last!

Each of the purchase will be entitled to one PDO coupon which will be dropped at the dedicated box located at PLAY’s entrance for a draw during the respective closing parties.

Winners will be announced at the following events:-
Ultra Korea Closing Party (28 May) where 6 winners will be picked
Rihanna Night Out (4 June) where 4 winners will be selected

The flyaway for “Road to Ibiza” will be determined at a later date.

Neon Lights, Singapore’s outdoor music and arts festival is back for its second year of fun-filled music and entertainment, taking place over six stages at Fort Canning Park once again this 26 and 27 November 2016!

After last year’s successful debut, this year’s edition promises a knockout weekend with Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós and indie rock band from Oxford, Foals as the main headliners!

The bands are definitely no strangers to Singapore, having performed in the country in 2012 and 2014 respectively.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have acts with the global profile and prestige of Foals and Sigur Rós headlining Neon Lights 2016. Both acts have established fan bases in Singapore and the region and will be playing full length evening time sets in the magnificent setting of Fort Canning Park. The rest of our line-up will be announced in July,” said Declan Forde, Neon Lights festival director.

Neon Lights’ concert-goers should be honoured and thrilled to know that this will be Sigur Rós’ only show in South East Asia and Foals only appearance in Singapore this year.

Both of the bands will be playing full sets at the upcoming Neon Lights festival 2016.

Last year, over 10,000 people attended the festival which featured big name artistes like Damien Rice, Rachael Yamagata, Rüfüs, Mogwai, Daughter, CHIC and more taking centre stage.

“Last year’s response to Neon Lights was electrifying. To see audiences of all manner of ages, interests, professions and cultures really getting in to the spirit of the festival was just magic. We are working hard with our amazing team and artistic collaborators to once again bring great music and art to the heart of the city, and what a great start with headliners Foals and Sigur Rós!” added Jennifer Jennings, arts director of Neon Lights.

Early Bird pre-sale tickets start on Tuesday, 10 May at 9am until 11am for members of the Neon Lights mailing list. Meanwhile, tickets for the general public will go on sale after the Early Bird pre-sale, starting from 11am.
