Claire Danes is the real-life Cinderella at the 2016 Met Gala

The Met Gala, formally known as the Costume Institute Gala, is one of the greatest fashion events of the year, and is also an annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York City.

Every year, the event will celebrate a certain theme, and invited celebrity guests and renowned personalities are expected to match the theme of the exhibit, though many of them have mistranslated the theme horribly.

This year, the theme of the Met Gala, also known as the Met Ball is “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology” with Anna Wintour, chairwoman of the gala, Jonathan Ive, chief design officer of Apple, Taylor Swift and Idris Elba as the hosts.

This year, actress Claire Danes won the night for showcasing her beautiful Cinderella-like gown designed by her fairy godfather, designer Zac Posen.

The dress looks simple on the outside, but when all lights are turned off, the dress lights up from the inside, and it looks absolutely breathtaking!

Anyway, here are some of the other celebrity Met Gala looks, where some are on point and some have strayed far off from the theme!

So where's the 'technology' in this dress? Apparently, this Derek Lam gown has a laser-cut circular design and lace work - so fair enough!

Queen Bey wore a nude latex dress by Riccardo Tisci which is very unique in its own way but has nothing to do with the theme!

With her silver hair, Ciara looks like an elegant robot from the future with her Swarovski-studded H&M dress.

This is how Claire Danes' dress looks like when the lights are on!

And when the lights are off - ta daa!

Emma Watson's dress is truly unique indeed! Why? Because it is made from recycled plastic bottles by Calvin Klein.

Futuristic couple of the year? Gigi rocks a metallic Tommy Hilfiger gown while Zayn wears armored sleeves over his Versace tuxedo.

Kate Hudson wows the crowd with her cut-out bridal inspired white gown which doesn't exactly fit the theme, but she certainly looks stunning!

Wearing a Prada gown featuring an array of charms, trinkets and belts, Katy Perry looks like a queen - an evil queen from the future!

Kim K wore a robot-inspired Balmain dress, and she looks like a bling-y sexy robot!

Another sexy robot! Like her sister Kim, Kylie also wore a Balmain dress but it is slightly see-through.

Lady Gaga is a futuristic rock star!

Instead of the dress, people will be focusing on her hair which kind of resembles Marge Simpson.

Madonna sort of flashes her butt and boobs which is not something unusual for her, but her hair and headpiece is inspired from the Queen Khaleesi from "Game of Thrones"!

Nicole Kidman dazzles everyone with her bejeweled dress. She looks like the queen of moon and stars!

Rita Ora is a silver phoenix in a Vera Wang feathered gown.

Solange Knowles gives a shout-out to her sister Beyonce by dressing up in a bright yellow ensemble, which seems like a reference to Bey's new album, "Lemonade".

Taylor Swift looks like a futuristic gladiator!

Apart from Claire Danes, Zoe Saldana also blew the internet away with her stunning peacock-inspired dress!

KFC now has an edible chicken-flavoured nail polish. Yay or Nay?

KFC is taking their famous “Finger lickin’ good” tagline quite literally!

The giant fast food chain company has launched two edible fried chicken-flavoured nail polishes – yep, you read that right – in KFC Hong Kong, and this is absolutely not a joke!

Remember how we were always taught not to bite our fingernails? Well, apparently KFC is now trying to give us the reason to do the opposite with their new advertising campaign that they worked with the food experts at McCormick, the makers of KFC’s 11 secret herbs and spices mix, and the ad agency Ogilvy & Mather, AdWeek reports.

The nail polish comes in two different colours – I mean flavours! – Original (glittery nude) and Hot & Spicy (sparkly orange).

In their statement, the fast food chain said; “To use, consumers simply apply and dry like regular nail polish, and then lick—again and again and again.”

First of all, what’s the point of painting your nails if you’re just going to end up licking off your nail polish?

Second of all, won’t your nails attract other food loving-creatures, like ants, or cats and dogs? What if they chew your hands while you sleep?

There’s just so much questions to ask of this bizarre-flavoured nail polishes, but according to Ogilvy’s creative director John Koay; “This campaign is designed to be intriguing and fun to increase excitement around the KFC brand in Hong Kong.”

Anyway, the nail polish is a limited release available only to the chicken-loving people in Hong Kong (for now).

But, if you have a nail-biting habit and also happen to love KFC, then you should definitely get yourselves to Hong Kong and buy them!

So do you think that this nail polish is interesting? Check out these other weirdly interesting nail polishes too!

Two weeks after opening its office in the Philippines, Facebook has just launched another one in Malaysia yesterday!

According to the Vice President of Facebook Asia-Pacific, Dan Neary, there are 18 million active monthly Facebook users in Malaysia. That means, over 81 percent of the people in the country are connected to internet!

So it is not surprising that Facebook had decided to open an office here in Malaysia!

“Malaysia is one of the leaders in digital adoption and innovation across Southeast Asia. Be it mobile penetration or time spent on smartphones, Malaysians are leading the charge in the region and its digital transformation has positively impacted both people and businesses,” he said in a statement.

Apart from Malaysia and the Philippines, other Facebook offices that are currently in Southeast Asia include Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore, where the latter is its Asia-Pacific headquarters.

“There's never been a more exciting time for Facebook and Malaysia. We look forward to more conversations with businesses in the coming days, and the opportunity to continue growing together,” he added.

It is learnt that the Malaysian office is located somewhere at KL Sentral, Kuala Lumpur.

The OtherSide Orchestra is back for Urbanscapes!

At Urbanscapes, plenty of fun and exciting activities are prepared for the party-goers, from the music, to the art, food and crafts – there’s just so much to do!

Of course, one of the activities for which many are looking forward to is the closing street party of Urbanscapes.

This year, electro rock band The OtherSide Orchestra are ready to make a comeback after three years of absence from the industry, and this time, with a brand new lead singer!

Made up of members Wan (guitar), Rashid (drums), Azan (bass), Remy (guitar), Haizal (synths) and Syima (vocals), the band was formed back in 2006, and had released their first album titled, "Electromancetacy" in 2007.

The band became a huge hit, having performed at esteemed music festivals such as Baybeats in Signapore, the Sunburst festival and Rock the World (both in Malaysia)- in fact, this will be the second time that the band will be performing at Urbanscapes as they previously rocked the festival back in 2008!

Now with a new front-woman, new songs in the works and another album set to be released this year, The OtherSide Orchestra are ready for their fresh comeback.

TheHive.Asia managed to catch up with two of the band members of The OtherSide Orchestra, lead vocalist Syima and the band's lead guitarist Wan, and here's what they have to say about their comeback, reason of hiatus and their songs for the second album.

So you guys are making a comeback after 3 years, what do you have in store for your fans?
Syima: We are recording some new stuff. We already have some new songs lined up for recording, but we haven’t release anything yet. We haven’t even performed any of these new songs yet. For now, we’re concentrating on doing more gigs. Just trying to get out there!

About these new songs that you mentioned, how do you plan to release it?
Wan: It’s going to be released as our second album. We actually played some of the songs before, but we never released them officially. So some of them are actually quite old, but we just didn’t include them in our first album.

So how is the second album different from the first one?
Syima: New vocalist maybe? [laughs] Probably more rock and roll. It is actually more or less the same, but we’re trying to make it more dance-able.

Wan:The specific term for this kind of genre is actually dance punk, but we don’t really like the “punk” part, so we decided to call it dance-able rock because punk is another genre.

You guys first performed at Urbanscapes in 2008. So how does it feel, getting to perform at the iconic festival for the second time?
Wan: We’re very thrilled!

Are there any memorable or funny memories that you have from the 2008 Urbanscapes?
Wan: Actually we’re not exactly sure what we were going to face that day since we never participated in Urbanscapes before. But the experience that we had was awesome! We never expected that such a huge crowd would attend our gig. Hopefully, we can get the same excitement for this year’s Urbanscapes!

Syima as a new member of the group, can you tell us how did this happen?
Syima: It’s very random actually. Me and my sister, we used to be fans of The OtherSide Orchestra, and the last time I saw them perform was in Singapore. My sister was actually the one that went to a lot of their gigs, so she was also the one who informed me that the band was having auditions for a new lead singer, which was somewhere around last year. So I decided to message Rasheed, our drummer, and we met up for the audition, and then I got it!

Wan:This is actually one of the reasons why we went on hiatus, we were actually trying to look for a new singer, but also because we kind of want more time to ourselves so that we can catch up with our lives. We weren’t really in a rush that time, but now we feel like we want to get back in the scene, so we decided to look up for potential singers.

It has been around 10 years since you guys made your debut, how do you think you have evolved musically over the years?
Syima: Since I’ve been listening to all of their music, I don’t think that they really evolved as they try to stay true to what they sound like. They haven’t been trying to change their musical style.

Of course now we try to come up with new material, but we’re trying to stick to our genre and not cater to everyone else. I mean yes, we want to sound good, but we’re trying to stick to what we originally are.

We see that there are a lot of local bands making comebacks this year, like Bittersweet and OAG, so what do you think is happening? Is it like some sort of a peer pressure kind of thing?
Syima: I don’t think so. I think it’s a coincidence.

Wan: Yeah, it’s quite a coincidence. I guess all of the other bands are bored, so they’re trying to get back into the game as well.

Syima: It just happens to be the year where everyone wants to relive all of their glorious moment back then. So it’s not really peer pressure or anything, it’s actually good that these other bands are booming as well. They’re coming up and trying to introduce themselves to the new crowd, but at the same time, reconnect with the old crowd too.

Let’s go back to when you guys first recorded “Electromancetacy”, what was your outlook as a band back then?
Wan:We were unsure back then, because all we wanted was to play for fun. Until we decided to record all the songs, it just suddenly happened. The first batch of our CDs sold out within 3 to 4 months, we had around 1,000 CDs back then, and we thought that only 200 copies would sell.

What do you think of the music competition in the Malaysian music industry?
Syima: Well, there are loads of newer and younger bands coming up with new sounds and new equipment, but at the same time…

Wan: We don’t really see them as a competition.

Syima: Yeah, we don’t, because we have our own sound too, and we’re not trying to compete with anyone else.

You guys are still considered as an indie band. Any plans on going mainstream?
Wan:I don’t know really because I'm not sure what’s going to happen after this!

Syima:We might try putting one foot at the door, but if we don’t like it I think we’re going to stick to being indie. We’d like to cater to a bigger audience but we don’t really want to go mainstream as in, we don’t want other people to control what we sound like or how we look like, we want to control all of that.

Wan:We don’t mind playing with other mainstream bands, but in terms of copyright and everything, we want to control that.

What other plans do you guys have this year, and also in the future?
Wan: We’re going to do more gigs and have more fun. We’re going to try our best to go as far as we can.

Syima: We’re aiming to participate in more prestigious and bigger music festivals, like how they used to go back then!

So tentatively, when is the second album coming out?
Wan: We’re going to start the recording after Urbanscapes. The drummer will do the drum track first, and the rest of us will start the recording during Ramadhan month. So I guess we’re going to release the album sometime after Ramadhan.

Malaysian spends millions on shopping after a banking mistake!

$

What do you do when you suddenly find AUD4.6 million in your bank account?

Ask Christine Jiaxin Lee, the Malaysian woman living in Sydney who discovered the amount under her name four years ago, AND had spent AUD3.3 million of it on designer handbags and cash transfers all in just one year!

This might sound like a dream come true for most, but authorities had finally tracked the chemical engineering degree student down and arrested her at Sydney Airport as she was trying to catch a flight home to Malaysia.

Now 21-years-old, it's amazing to think how Christine thought that she wouldn't get caught at all and had so confidently spent the bulk of the moo-lah that was mistakenly given to her as overdraft in her Westpac bank account back in 2012.

However, if our calculations are right, four years ago would mean that Christine was only 17-years-old when she received the AUD4.6 million, so could we blame adolescent naivety for her lapse of clear judgement?

Guys, come on.. We all know how girls can get when it comes to shopping, right?

So, after spending a night in jail following her airport arrest on 4 May 2016, Christine had to go to court where she was granted bail under the condition that she would have to surrender her passport and report twice to the police, daily.

Apparently, she didn't even have to spend the night in jail after her arrest if her boyfriend, Vincent King (also Malaysian) brought his passport to the police station.

The Dailymail UK says that he only brought along his Malaysian ID and police could not verify his identity, thus refusing her AUD1,000 bail. There was also a misspelling on her bail address, further complicating matters.

Christine will be attending court this week, to find out what's next following her situation.

The Dailymail UK also added that Christine had not returned any of the bank's calls or emails to her all this while, however Magistrate Lisa Stapleton was quoted saying, "It's not proceeds of crime. It's money we all dream about. She didn't take it from (the bank). They gave it to her."

However Stapleton did say that if that was proven to be true, then Christine would just owe the money to the court without actually breaking the law.

What would YOU do if you found AUD4.6 million in your bank account?

Gigantic-sized food is usually something that you would find in America or several European countries due to their much larger appetites.

It is not really a common food trend around Asia, but in recent years, several Asian countries have started to produce more and more larger-sized food.

Is it because the Asian’s appetite has started to grow as well? Not exactly, it is more like the oversized food has become the latest food trend nowadays!

Here we listed down some of the popular gigantic-sized food in several Asian countries, so next time when you decide to visit the country, remember to try them out!

1.Milo Tower – Singapore
Similar to a beer tower, but is filled with iced milo instead. The drinking trend first started in Singapore which usually costs between SGD10 to SGD15. The drinks can be shared among 5 to 10 friends depending on the height, unless you have the confident to finish it all! Currently, there two places in Singapore which sold the drinks – RK Eating House and Srisun Express. Both also taste great but the milo tower at Srisun Express is much higher!

2.Big Cup drinks – Malaysia
The drink is not as huge as a milo tower, but it is twice as large than normal-sized drinks, and it is a growing trend in Malaysia. Though big cup drink is not exactly the official name, the trend reportedly started in Kedah by a street stall named Cowboy Coffee. (The owner and staffs there dressed up as cowboys too!) You can find this drinks at almost every street stalls in Malaysia, but we would suggest you to try the original one in Kedah as it tasted the best (personally), and it is cheaper than other places which is MYR4 while other places usually sell it at MYR5 or above.

3.ABC Gunung Kinabalu – Malaysia
Short for Air Batu Campur which is also known as Ais Kacang, ABC is common dessert in Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei and several other Southeast Asian countries. The dessert normally comes in form of shaved ice with sweet syrup and various toppings that is served in a small bowl, but the one sold in Sabah is five times larger than it! The dessert takes after the name of the tallest mountain Malaysia and it costs only MYR16 per bowl. Currently, the dessert is only located at Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

4.25 Degrees Burger – Bangkok

Named after the precise temperature difference between a raw and well done hamburger, 25 Degrees serves some of the largest, juiciest and fresh beef and chicken burgers in town. The place also serves normal-sized burgers. Though the food there can be quite pricey, it is quite worth it as the quality is top-notch!

Do you believe in doppelgängers? Well, we do!

In folklore, a doppelgänger is someone who looks just like you, almost like your double or maybe a twin sibling from another mother.

It is believed that each of us have seven lookalikes a.k.a doppelgängers, scattered across the globe.

Even in Hollywood itself, there are already plenty of celebrities lookalikes who look so identical that you sometime mistake them for the other.

Some of the famous examples include Katy Perry and Zooey Deschanel, Will Ferrell and Chad Smith from Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Nina Dobrev and Victoria Justice, and plenty more.

However, those kinds of celebrity lookalike lists are so overly done, which is why we decided to do something a little different than the usual list.

We are going to list out 10 Asian celebrities and their Hollywood counterparts, don’t think it’s possible? Check them out!

10 Sexiest commercials of all time

$
0
0
Sexy always sells! That’s right, the experts say that the best way to promote or sell a certain product is by getting a sexy woman to do it for you.

Just have them pose next to the product, or feature them together with it – and voila! It works every time!

Although some companies might’ve gone a bit overboard with their sexy commercials to the point that they got banned, others try their best to make sexy commercials that are still family-friendly enough to be viewed worldwide.

Check out these 10 sexiest commercials below!

Charlotte McKinney in Carl’s Jr All-Natural

Wow, what plump and juicy b-b-burger! This commercial was meant to be aired during last year’s Superbowl, but because it was too sexy, it was banned from the big game. Nevertheless, the video managed to rake up 12 million views on YouTube, and later in the same year, Charlotte starred in yet another Carl’s Jr commercial, but this time, the video didn’t get banned as it was quite decent, which is why, it didn’t make it to this list!

Kate Upton’s SoBe Staring Contest

As one of the sexiest women alive, Kate Upton would look still look sexy no matter what commercial she’s in. In this particular one, Kate participates in a staring contest to win SoBe drinks, which stands for South Beach Beverage Company. Of course, Kate is being unfair as she wears only a bikini and engages into a staring contest with a man, and as you may have guessed, the man’s eyes stray onto other parts of Kate’s body which is NOT her eyes.

Calvin Klein Concept 2013

Also a Superbowl commercial, Calvin Klein model Matthew Terry immediately shot to fame after his Calvin Klein’s commercial aired on American TV screens. The handsome model was seen stretching in his Calvin Klein’s briefs, showing off his perfectly toned-up muscles and six pack. Also, the sexy stare that he gives at the end would make every girl in the world faint!

Miller Light beer Catfight

Models Kitana Baker and Tanya Balinger rose to fame through the Miller Lite beer “catfight” TV commercials for the long-running “Great Taste...Less Filling” campaign. The commercial was then banned as critics claimed that it depicts women as sexual objects. The commercial shows the two models engaging in a sexy catfight over from a fountain to a mud pit, with the girls stripping each other of their clothing in the process. The commercial has a follow-up to it where the two ladies are joined by actress Pamela Anderson.

Kim Kardashian for Skechers

Kim Kardashian had her first Superbowl ad with Skechers. The sexily misleading commercial featured the voluptuous socialite working out with her hot trainer where she said naughty lines like “You’re amazing. The best I’ve ever had”, but then leaves him for Sketchers Shape-Up shoes which enables her to tone up her leg without going to the gym.

Bud Light beer “Yoga”

Budweiser light beer's commercial features a room full of ladies in a yoga class where the clip starts from the back of the room where you get to see the ladies’ butts. At the very end of the studio, there are two guys pretending to do yoga when they are actually “enjoying” the whole class, until the yoga instructor discovers them.

Wacoal’s push-up bra

The beautiful Thai woman stares and smiles cutely and seductively at the camera, with wind blowing in her hair. Then her hand flirtatiously plays with her necklace and the camera keeps on focusing on her bra. She seems to be every man’s dream girl with her angelic look, well at least until she takes off her clothes, removes her makeup and also her push-up bra!

Peach John 2016 Spring collection

Simple, sexy and elegant, the commercial features Belgian model Yumi Lambert catwalking along the street while a huge spring breeze blows her way, revealing the various colours of undergarments she wears beneath her clothes.

Denroku’s Choco Party chocolate

The commercial is meant to sell Denroku’s Choco Party chocolate, but it features Japanese gravure idol Kaori Ohara who bounces around while doing something that seems like a “rock, paper, scissors” game. Seriously, what she is doing doesn’t seem to have anything to do with the chocolate, but maybe in Japan, viewers need to have some eye candy to go with the candy? (LOL)

Thai agriculture fertiliser

For a commercial that’s meant for a big bag of crap, this Thai ad is seriously funny and sexy on so many levels – which is not something unusual when it comes to Thailand! Also, it is very suggestive and full of sexual innuendos, so make sure to not let your kids watch it unless they’re over 18.

So much for infinity, Disney is cancelling its popular toy-to-life game franchise, Disney Infinity, which was first launched in 2013 and has featured famous characters from more than 40 Disney movies.

With the end of Disney Infinity, the game studio behind the series, Avalanche Software, is expected to close too, resulting in 300 people losing their jobs.

“This was a difficult decision that we did not take lightly given the quality of Disney Infinity and its many passionate fans,” Disney said in a statement obtained by Kotaku.

However, Disney revealed that it will be releasing two new Disney Infinity games in May and June before officially ending the franchise for good.

“We have two final retail releases coming, including three new characters from Alice Through the Looking Glass later this month, and the Finding Dory Play Set launching in June,” Disney posted on its official blog.

Though Disney plans to continue licensing their properties to other video game publishers, it no longer intends to make their own console games.

The latest in the franchise is Disney Infinity 3.0 which focuses more on the “Star Wars” franchise, featuring characters from “Star Wars”, “Inside Out”, “The Good Dinosaur”, “Zootopia” and also The Avengers from Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“Our goal for Disney Infinity was to bring the best of Disney storytelling to life in homes around the world, and with your support we accomplished that,” read the Disney’s statement.

“We hope you had as much fun playing the game as we had making it.”

Nico & Vinz: We were supposed to work with Yuna

African-Norwegian duo Nico & Vinz was recently in Malaysia to perform at Electric Run 2016, alongside local big names such as SonaOne, H3, Twinkies and ABeatC.

Formerly known as Envy, the songwriting duo, made up of Kahouly Nicolay "Nico" Sereba and Vincent "Vinz" Dery, later changed their band name to Nico & Vinz after signing with Warner Bros. Records.

During their visit in Malaysia, Nico & Vinz was also honoured with plaques, presented to them by Managing Director of Warner Music Malaysia Darren Choy at the office of Warner Music Malaysia, to commemorate their smash hit, “Am I Wrong”, reaching 6x platinum in Malaysia.

Read on below to see what TheHive.Asia managed to have a little chat about with Nico & Vinz.

Nico & Vinz reaches 6x platinum in Malaysia with “Am I Wrong”.

It has been two years since you reached international success with “Am I Wrong”, have you ever thought of giving up before reaching that level of success?

Vinz: Not exactly giving up. From 2010 to 2013, those three years people weren’t paying attention to us. We would try to make things happen and do shows and people weren’t picking up. It was tough. We weren’t at the point where we wanted to give up making music, but it was just tiresome. We put so much time, so much money and we didn’t even really have money anyway. Whatever we had we invested in our shows, we couldn’t see any money coming back for a long time. But then you get all those low points and you write about it and all of a sudden, that song that you write about your frustration is the song that takes you to – Malaysia (laughs).

Have the thoughts of going solo ever entered your minds?

Nico: Not really. Since we started we’ve always had this thing where we felt like the music that we have right now is going very well because we are together, because I give what I have to the melting pot and he gave what he has. We think that we are strong artists individually also and we can have our own individual expression. But together is where we’re the strongest right now. That’s definitely what we’re focusing on right now, keeping Nico and Vinz working and rolling, making a lot of music.

We don’t see us splitting up in the future but who knows maybe we’ll do our own solo projects because we have different interests. Maybe it’s not even music, maybe I’ll do something in film, he’ll do something in acting and then who knows, God only knows where life takes you but the music is now definitely Nico and Vinz, as a group.

Nico & Vinz wants to work with Yuna and SonaOne.
Have you ever worked with any Malaysian artistes? Who would you like to work with, given the chance?

Nico: We’ve never worked with any. We were supposed to go into the studio with Yuna. She reached out to us before we came. But right now she’s in LA, where we stay, and we’re here, so unfortunately (laughs). If we can make it happen we’d definitely work with her in the future.

Any other Malaysian artistes you would like to work with?

Nico: We saw a really dope one at the Electric Run festival. There was one guy before us, SonaOne. He was good but we haven’t made any plans yet, we gotta know when to come back first.

Nico (left) and Vinz were in Malaysia for Electric Run.
Is this your first time taking part in Electric Run? How was the experience?

Vinz: Yes and I think for us being the artistes that we are, it’s an important part being able to be on stage and be as active as we are as well, especially in Electric Run too. I think the audience got to see a lot of our energy. We were able to play a lot of our music and we played some new songs.

What are the songs you have been working on?

Vinz: DJ SpinKing, we did a new song with him, “League of Your Own”. We also did a song with Alesso called “I Wanna Know” and we just try to work with as many people as we can, all these people that we admire, we try to reach out to them. We just met Akon at Coachella, and the following week went into the studio with Akon.

Any plans for an album soon?

Nico: It [album] will come. But right now like Vinz said we’re just going to focus on our songs, first and foremost. And one day it’ll be an album for sure.
