Actress Amber Heard has filed for divorce from Johnny Depp after just 15 months of marriage.
Reports from TMZ claimed that the divorce was filed three days after Depp’s mother passed away.

It is also said that the pair do not have a prenuptial agreement.

The 30-year-old actress filed the papers on Monday, citing irreconcilable differences and is also seeking spousal support.

However, Depp, 50, filed his response through his lawyer to reject Heard’s claim for spousal support.

Depp and Heard met on the set of “The Rum Diary” in 2009, and at that point of time, Depp was still with his partner of 14 years, Vanessa Paradis with whom he has one daughter, Lily-Rose, and one son, Jack.

After splitting up for good with Paradis, Depp got into a relationship with Heard and they both married in February last year in a private Los Angeles ceremony.

During the Palm Springs Film Festival in January, Depp who received an achievement award thanked his wife on stage.

“I also have to thank my wife, Amber, for putting up with me, for living with all these characters, which can’t be easy. It’s hard for me – it’s got to be hard for her,” he said.

Depp’s latest movie, “Alice Through the Looking Glass” opens tomorrow in the U.S. but will only hit screens in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei on 6 July 2016 and 11 August 2016 in Cambodia.

Don’t flip out, but Motorola Razr is making a comeback!

Do you still remember the days when flip phones were actually cool?

Oh yes, back in early 2000s, all the cool kids in school were not just flipping their hair, but also their phones, and Motorola Razr was THE hot phone everyone wanted!

But it looks like it won’t be just a nostalgic memory anymore as Motorola Mobility, the smartphone manufacturer now owned by Lenovo, has dropped a video ad featuring 90s school kids using the classic flip phones.

This seems to be a huge hint that The Razr could be making a comeback!

“Flip back to the Razr days of yesteryear and get ready for the future,” said the video description on YouTube.

We’re not quite sure what that means, but if Motorola is really reviving the world’s most popular flip phone, we might need to brush up our T9 texting skills once again!

Nothing is confirmed yet at this point but the company will be revealing a big announcement on 9 June 2016, possibly the launch of a new phone that revisits the ol’ flip-phone styles – we’ll see!

Apart from the Razr, here are other phones that we think should make a comeback!

1)Nokia 3310

Like seriously, this phone is the God of all phones from way back then. It doesn’t matter how many times you’ve dropped it on the floor or in water, you can always use it again afterwards thanks to its durability!

2)Nokia N-Gage

This hybrid of phones and game consoles was a huge rival to Nintendo’s Gameboy Advance, and it had also won itself several awards. Imagine if this phone is equipped with today’s technology (touchscreen, 3D), then it might stand a chance to fight with Nintendo DS!

3)Nokia 2100

Everybody used to be in love with this phone due to its small and light built, and it also comes in a wide range of colours!

4)Nokia 6100

One of the first phones to use polyphonic ringtones because before this, all the previous models used monophonic ringtones. Everyone basically went gaga over this phone as it can also connect to the internet through GPRS.

5)Nokia 7600

Also one of the lightest and smallest Nokia phones out there, but basically, we just want it back because of its cool-looking design.

P.S: We know that all the phones that we pick are of Nokia brand, but can you blame us? This phone brand seriously ruled back in the 90s and ‘00s - they’re basically indestructible!

Hear Yuna and Jhené Aiko’s angelic voices in “Used to Love You”

After successfully collaborating with Usher for “Crush” and DJ Premier for “Places to Go”, Yuna unveiled her latest single featuring Grammy-nominated neo-soul songstress Jhené Aiko, “Used to Love You”.

Released from her latest album “Chapters, “Used to Love You” is a soulful masterpiece with a mix of pop and R&B, and the combination of Yuna and Jhené’s honeyed vocals makes this track stand out from the rest of the songs on the album.

Jhené possesses a gentle and sensually sweet voice which is kind of similar to Yuna’s soothing tone but yet they’re not the same.

In 2013, Jhené appeared in Big Sean’s single "Beware" which also featuring Lil Wayne, and the song became her first Top 40 hit on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.

She was also nominated at the 2015 Grammy Awards for three categories, Best R&B Song for “The Worst”, Best Urban Contemporary Album for “Sail Out” and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for “Blak Majik” with Common.

Yuna who is currently on her first ever American tour, performed “Used to Love” on stage with Jhené Aiko for the first time in Los Angeles, California recently.

That racist Chinese detergent ad is actually a rip off of an Italian ad

A certain Chinese detergent ad has been circling the internet, and people are fuming over how racist it is!

Here’s how the commercial goes:-

A black man, who is covered with splatter of paints all over his face and shirt, walks into the room and starts flirting with a Chinese woman who is doing the laundry.

The woman lures him over to the washing machine, and while he tries to sneak a kiss, she slips a detergent packet into his mouth and pushes him into the washing machine.

When the washing is done, out comes a clean and handsome Chinese man – amazing isn’t it?

It is not known the origin of the ad which it is to promote Qiaobi-brand laundry detergent, but this is not the first time that the Chinese have discriminated against coloured people.

Remember the old Darlie toothpaste commercial, and how it previously featured a dark-skinned black male?

We also found that the Chinese ad is actually a straight-out rip-off of an Italian detergent ad, “Coloreria” which came out around 2006.

However, this ad is quite the opposite, as it embraces the tagline “Coloured is better”.

Here’s the thing, people are making a fuss about this viral Chinese commercial, but no one makes a sound when the Italian commercial came out. How strange!

Hujan’s new album shows their journey from the beginning

One of Malaysia’s leading rock bands, Hujan have finally released their latest and also their fifth studio album, “Jika Sempat”, which is now available on all digital platforms including Spotify as well as at video and record stores nationwide.

To celebrate the launch of their new album and also their 10 year anniversary, Hujan has embarked on their “Hujan London Tour” in the United Kingdom since 24 May 2016.

Consisting of five members including Noh Salleh (vocalist), Hezry Hafidz better known as AG Coco (guitarist), Azham Ahmad (drummer), Hang Dimas (keyboardist) and Izzat Uzaini (bassist), Hujan described their new album as “the journey of Hujan from the beginning until today”.

During the launch of their 12-track album at Warner Music Malaysia recently, Hujan talked about the album in more detail, the inspiration behind the songs, their fanbase, as well as the absence of Hang Dimas in their album and tour.

AG mentioned that this album is the fastest in terms of its production timeline. Why is it so fast? Was the album rushed?

AG: I guess it’s because of my experience. I’ve produced many albums for other artistes, and because this is the album for my own band, so maybe that’s why it is a lot smoother and faster.
Also, when we made the previous album, we had experienced all the problems and troubles, so for this album we already knew how to avoid them

Noh, the album’s title song “Jika Sempat” is your song right? Can you give us some insight on that song?

Noh: “Jika Sempat” is a song that I wrote in 2008 or 2009. In this album, more than 10 songs are actually old songs that we’ve kept in our archives. The only news songs are “Pemicu Gila” and “Kau”. I never thought that AG would include the song “Jika Sempat” in this album because he previously rejected the song when I suggested it to him.

AG: Yeah, most of the songs in this album are actually rejected songs. But we rejected them because we thought that they were not suitable, or because it wasn’t the best time to release the songs, until now that is.

Noh, there are also rumours saying that you took vocal lessons for this album. Is this true?

Noh: It’s true. But it’s not for this album. It was more for personal reasons, to improve myself. I think it’s about time that I took things to another level. I don’t want to be just another rock ‘n roll vocalist.

Why did it take four years to release this album?

AG:Because back then we were too productive, so we had gotten sick at seeing each other’s faces. That’s why we decided to take a break for a while. So we relaxed for four years.

Noh: I’ve seen the same issue faced by other bands. Sheila On 7 for example, there’s this one time that they took a hiatus because they were too tired of seeing each other’s faces for more than 10 years. I never thought that Hujan would also turn out to be like that, but thank God, we all agreed to take a break, and when the time came and we missed being in a band, then we came back together.

For the last two years, I focused more on doing solo stuff. Although it felt nice, something was missing. It didn’t feel right if I wasn’t with my band on stage.

It’s also because of the Raingers (Hujan fans). Every day the Raingers would question us about when we’re getting back together and all that. So we thought that it’s about time for us to make a comeback.

You mentioned that this album contains a lot of previously rejected songs, and many fans have stated that Hujan’s music have changed a lot over the years, so does this mean that this album will sound a lot like Hujan’s older sound rather than a new one?

Noh: Yeah!

AG: Basically, this album portrays the journey of Hujan from the beginning until today. So through this album, you can hear how our sound had changed.

Noh: In these 10 years, we have evolved and we’ve tried a lot of different things. So I think that this album really showed how we changed over the years. It’s like a compilation of all the songs we created.

Do you think that this album will attract even more fans towards Hujan?

Noh: I never thought of attracting anybody. I usually just do it for fun! [laughs] But if it’s able to attract more fans, of course I would be happy!

Raingers are one of top fanbases in Malaysia, but most of them are around mid-20s to late-30s, and they are getting older. So, are you guys now targeting the younger generation?

AG:The Raingers are like family to us, and I don’t think the numbers of our fanbase will be less as they get older because they will always be Raingers.

Also, every time we perform, our fans will always be there to support us, and they’re very energetic and fun! So when other people see them supporting us happily, they would be attracted to join in the fun, so it is a never-ending process!

How do you think your music will be accepted worldwide?

AG: It’s very simple. It’s just like how we appreciate the Korean and Japanese bands when they come to Malaysia. So, if we bring Malay songs overseas, surely there would be a certain audience that would like to listen to different sounds.

Noh: We want to introduce our music to other people in the world. So I think our decision to go to the UK is a right choice. It is like we’re rekindling our bonds with the band members once again because it’s going to be just us on this tour, and we’re facing a new crowd in local clubs or bars. So it’s kind of new for us because it’s like we’re back to zero and I really look forward to this tour!

Why is the keyboardist Hang Dimas not included in this album and the London tour?

Noh: We’re not too sure either! [laughs] The thing is, he’s still in our WhatsApp group, and in Hujan, we don’t control every member – it’s like if you’re free, you can come, but if you’re not, we understand. So it’s not like we had purposely left him out, he has a lot of things going on lately too.

New York-based Malaysian entrepreneur Kirby Tan is planning to make a 26-episode film on Malaysian cuisine and culinary art.

Tan who is from Malacca, owned a restaurant in New York called the Malaysian Kitchen USA where he recently sold 25 percent of the restaurant shares.

Bernama reported that Tan plans to highlight Malaysia’s diverse cuisine in over 26 episodes via his film which is privately funded by a group of business people.

Tan hopes that the film will “educate the public about Malaysian food, particularly barbecued food.”

“We will educate people and highlight Malaysian-Chinese food appealing to American and Chinese consumers, though it will emphasise less on the spices.”

“Since I sold the Malaysian Kitchen Restaurant, which took away a lot of my time, I can give my full attention to making the movie,” he continued.

Tan also mentioned that he plans to discuss with Malaysia’s trade promotion agency MATRADE (Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation) about using the film to promote Malaysian food and cooking.

Though the authenticity of the Malaysian dishes will be maintained, there will be slight difference in the ingredients used in order to appeal to the American taste buds.

“Americans love grilled food and we should take advantage of that. They host grill parties in their gardens during the summer time, the ‘grill season’, to use a popular local expression,” said Tan.

In late May, Los Angeles rapper of Korean descent Jonathan Park or better known for his stage name Dumbfoundead, had decided to tackle on the issue of whitewashing in Hollywood.

Over the years this issue has been popping up everywhere and it is not something new, but it had reached a fever pitch after the whole #OscarsSoWhite fiasco.

Dumbfoundead’s song titled, “Safe” highlights the lack of Asian American representation in Hollywood from movie to television screens.

In the music video, Park’s face is CGI-ed onto lead role of popular white male leads in blockbuster films and shows such as “Titanic”, “Indiana Jones”, “Pirates of the Carribbean”, “Game of Thrones”, “Iron Man” and more.

“The title 'Safe' is a reference to how I felt Asians and Asian Americans were being perceived: the model minority that'll take it and smile, the punching bag of America,” Park said to NBC News.

Park also revealed that he started writing the song shortly after seeing Chris Rock making fun of Asians during the 2016 Academy Awards.

“I have been to many auditions where they wanted me to speak in an ‘Asian accent’ and I understand when the role requires that, but there were so many roles where the accent wasn’t necessary,” he said. “It only showed me the perception of what Hollywood thinks of us.”

Paperplane Pursuit, Bunkface and Dennis Lau have been chosen to be part of the delegation to the Marche International du Disque et de l'Edition Musicale (MIDEM), the annual event where artistes, technology and brands are connected by music.

The event will be held in Cannes, France from 3 to 6 June 2016.

The three performers were chosen due to their accomplishments and their track record for independently leading their very own music companies;

Paperplane Pursuit – Breaking Records
Bunkface – Bunkface Productions
Dennis Lau – Mosaic Entertainment Group

“It’s our first time in Europe, and we hope to meet and network with music companies from the continent who can assist us in penetrating the European market,” said the Paperplane Pursuit’s vocalist John O as reported by News Straits Times.

“Ultimately, our goal is to penetrate the US market, but we believe in doing things one step at the time, and Europe is a good place to make an international start outside Southeast Asia.”

Electric violinist Dennis Lau stated that he will be shooting a music video at Cannes for his new single “Largest Movie” which is a Jay Chou cover.

This will be the fourth consecutive participation by Malaysia at the MIDEM which aims to promote the nation's music industry.
