Fans of Sanrio’s Gudetama will be egg-cited to know that a themed café dedicated to the adorable but lazy egg character will soon be opened in Singapore this coming November at Suntec City Mall!

With his charmingly unmotivated attitude and a lumpy figure with a butt, Gudetama has been a huge hit since it was first introduced by Sanrio in 2013.

The first Gudetama Café was opened in Osaka in 2015, and soon after that, Hong Kong also opened its very own Gudetama Cafe by Izumi Curry as well as a Gudetama dim sum pop-up restaurant at Dim Sum Icon in Hong Kong.

A movie based on Malaysia’s very own badminton hero Lee Chong Wei is currently in the making, set to be helmed by “Kepong Gangster” director, Teng Bee.

Titled as “Rise of the Legend”, the film will chronicle the life story of the badminton legend and his successful journey into becoming a champion and a global sports icon.

The movie will be produced by CB Pictures on a budget of RM4.5 million and is set to hit the screen in 2018, New Straits Times reports.

“Three years ago, we came up with a concept about making a biopic about Lee. And it took us three years to finally get his approval,” said the director.

For now, it is still not known as to who will be taking on the role of the badminton champion, but Teng said that a nationwide audition will be held to search for the right candidate.

It is also not confirmed whether Lee himself would appear in the film.

Four years ago, Yusof Haslam’s son Shafiq Yusof expressed interest in creating a Lee Chong Wei biopic, but the plan never went through.

Grab introduces new instant messaging feature

Southeast Asia's ride-hailing platform Grab has introduced GrabChat, an instant messaging platform embedded within the app, and is touted as the first ride-hailing app in Southeast Asia to provide instant messaging.

“GrabChat makes it easier and quicker for passengers and drivers to commence their rides by allowing seamless communication between them without leaving the Grab app or incurring mobile charges. Our latest feature solves a commonly encountered gap where communication between drivers and passengers helps to commence a ride by locating one another or informing an estimated arrival time, said Tan Hooi Ling, Co-founder of Grab in a statement.

The new GrabChat enables drivers to communicate their estimated arrival times without leaving the app screen, while passengers are able to receive more responsive feedback and share their exact locations.

A beta test has been conducted among selected drivers and passengers in Malaysia and Singapore, and the results have seen a significant reduction in ride cancellations by aiding the pickup process.

The new feature comes with several commonly used templated messages for drivers and passengers such as “I’m here”, “OK”, “Are you nearby” and “I will arrive in 2 minutes”, and this is to make communication easier for both parties.

GrabChat is now available on the Grab’s latest version (v4.6.6).
