Mark Zuckerberg’s Jarvis AI system is voiced by Morgan Freeman

Looks like Tony Stark isn’t the only one who has an Artificial Intelligence assistant named Jarvis, Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg has one too – and the AI is voiced by none other than actor Morgan Freeman!

Back in January, the Facebook founder announced his plans to create the AI to run his home and help with his work, and he certainly isn’t joking.

“My personal challenge for 2016 was to build a simple AI to run my home -- like Jarvis in Iron Man,” Zuckerberg posted a statement on Tuesday, 20 December 2016.

Inspired by Tony Stark’s Jarvis AI from the “Iron Man” movies, Jarvis is very similar to Amazon’s Alexa which can be activated by voice and able to connect with and control various objects in the house.

The 32-year-old genius posted a humorous video on his Facebook page yesterday, showing his homemade Jarvis AI assistant in action.

The video however, is intended to be a “fun summary and not a live demo.”

In October, Zuckerberg asked the Facebook community to give suggestions on who should voice the AI and Robert Downy Jr who plays Tony Stark in “Iron Man” immediately volunteered.

“I’ll do in a heartbeat if Bettany gets paid and donates it to a cause of Cumberbatch's choosing...that's the right kind of STRANGE!” he commented.

However, Zuckerberg decided to go with the majority who voted for the “Voice of God”, Morgan Freeman.

After calling and asking Freeman to take the job, the actor agreed immediately, but there is no mention on whether there’s any financial element to Freeman’s participation.

“My goal was to learn about the state of artificial intelligence -- where we're further along than people realize and where we're still a long ways off. These challenges always lead me to learn more than I expected, and this one also gave me a better sense of all the internal technology Facebook engineers get to use, as well as a thorough overview of home automation,” he added.

After announcing their show in Singapore, multi-platinum album seller Journey who is known for their smash hit “Don’t Stop Believin’” is all set to perform live in Malaysia on 11 February 2017 at Stadium Malawati in Shah Alam, Selangor.

IMC Live Group, official concert organisers announced the exciting news on their Facebook page:-

The news could not have come at a better time as just recently the 80’s rock band was added in to the Rock and Roll hall of fame along with Pearl Jam and Tupac as the 2017 inductees.

The band has given timeless hits throughout the years such as forceful rock anthem “Separate ways (Worlds Apart)”, “Any Way You Want It” along with arm-swaying favourites like “Open Arms” and the evergreen hit, “Don’t Stop Believin’”.

The rock band that was revered as a frontier in the 80’s rock music scene constantly reshuffled their members over the years.

But much to our delight, lead vocalist Arnel Pineda, lead guitarist and backing vocals Neal Schon, bassist Ross Valory, keyboardist Jonathan Cain, and drummer Steve Smith are all expected to attend.

The promising show looks to be a real crowd-puller and a once in a lifetime chance to catch the legends of the rock and roll era.

The tickets price ranges from RM140 to RM530 and will be available from 19 December 2016, 11am onwards at ticketcharge.com.my.

Earlier this month, it was reported by several news outlets that Malaysian alternative rock band Estranged had been invited to perform at the Apple Music Christmas Festival in the U.K. alongside big names like Metallica, Radiohead and more at the end of this year.

However, new information has come to light and this news had turned out to be completely FALSE as TheHive.Asia have been personally contacted by Estranged’s lawyers and they have informed us that the band was in fact conned by a Malaysian con artist named Ms Eziana Abd Aziz who represented herself as an Apple Inc. Publicity Manager.

“We regret to inform you that we have been misinterpreted by a con artist and have just discovered that the said Apple Music festival in London does not in fact exist,” read a statement issued by Estranged’s lawyers.

At first, the band was uncertain on whether they should make this public as it would heavily affect their image, but in order to ensure that no other innocent musicians shall fall prey for the same scam, the three-member band decided to make the news known to public.

“We have decided to make this information public in the interest of other innocent fellow musicians who are passionate about their music but are sometime too gullible when it comes to business. It is in our nature as musicians sometimes to be too trusting of people. We have certainly paid a heavy price for this,” the band said.

“We have decided to come out publicly because we understand that this con artist is now approaching other musicians. We cannot in good conscience keep quiet and allow other musicians to fall prey to her,” they continued.

The band also mentioned that their manager have received a letter from Ms Eziana completed with the signature from Apple Music Director Adam TL Wilson, but they soon found out that the letter is actually a forgery.

“We have been in touch with Apple in U.K. who has confirmed that she is a fraud. It is important that all people are alerted about this,” the band wrote.

“We are so affected by this event, that there was a moment we considered breaking up and cancelling our upcoming tour starting from Kilang Bateri in Johor Bahru. But we have decided to be strong for the sake of our fans and will continue with our musical journey with a stronger resolve to be the best that we can,” said Estranged.

Most Shazamed tracks of 2016 revealed

$

Mobile phone application, Shazam, which has over billions of download, has revealed the most Shazamed (it’s officially a word now) tracks of 2016!
For those of you who are still in dark over this, Shazam is a music identifying app that lets you record any music that is playing and let you know the title and the name of the song.

In a year where music was more mumbling than words with songs like “Panda” by Desiigner, Rihanna’s “Work”, Grammy nominated “Broccoli” and the ever golden “PPAP” by Pikotaro ruling our airwaves, it makes perfect sense on why we need apps like Shazam.

The diverse list of songs contains some explosive hits of 2016 with the top three going to Sia’s “Cheap Thrills” with 12.5 Million Shazams, Kungs & Cookin’ on 3 Burner’s “This Girl” with 12.3 Million Shazams, and Electronic Dance Music (EDM) star Alan Walker’s “Faded” with 12 Million Shazams respectively.

Mike Posner’s house music “I Took a Pill in Ibiza (Seeb Remix)” came fourth followed by Twenty One Pilots “Stressed Out” at fifth and The Chainsmokers “Don’t Let Me Down” at number 6.

Notable mentions in the list would be Lukas Graham’s hit single “7 years” and Justin Biebers “Love Yourself” which ranked in at 7th and 10th respectively.

“Don’t be so shy” by Pop singer Imany and one of the feel good songs of the year, DNCE’s “Cake by the Ocean” finished 8th and 9th respectively.

Shazam also revealed the top Shazamed artist and also top Shazamed songs by category with the top artist going to rapper Drake.

Drake’s “One Dance” was the most Shazamed hip-hop tracks and Coldplay’s “Hymn for the Weekend” was the most Shazamed rock track with Sia’s “Cheap Thrills” being the most Shazamed pop track.

Weekend’s “Starboy” is the most Shazamed Rap and Ballad (R&B) song and Sam Hunt’s “Take Your Time” is the most Shazamed country song.

Top 5 Characters in a Christmas movie

$

0

Well, the most celebrated festival in the world is just around the corner and this means more Christmas movies too!

More often than not, movies with a festive theme often does well at the box-office where in the spirit of joy and holidays, even a dreadful movie gets away with a decent turnout.

But now, we are about to list down five iconic movies that gave birth to stellar characters that are remembered until today.

This diverse list of characters covers them all, from the ever charming Macaulay Culkin, the kid from "Home Alone" to a young but hard-hitting Bruce Willis in "Die Hard".

1. Kevin McCallister from "Home Alone"

Okay, if you need a description for this character or you don't know what film this is, better stop whatever you are doing right now and go watch this movie immediately. Or you can just wait a few days and it will surely be aired on one of the TV channels this week, as such is the magnitude of the film. In fact, a Google search on 'the most overplayed Christmas movie' would also show the film as the first suggestion, and it's all a huge thanks to Kevin. Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) plays an adorable yet genius 8-year-old-boy who in a bizarre circumstance was left home alone and had to set booby traps to fight two mischievous burglars. Kevin's adorable yet naive characterisation coupled with his ingenious ideas on using household items to ward off the burglars earn him a place in our top characters in Christmas movies list.

2. Jack Skellington from "The Nightmare before Christmas"

It's a Tim Burton Christmas film, do we need any more reason than that? Well, the movie sees Christmas from the point of view of Jack who is the "Pumpkin King" of Halloween Town, a fantasy world based solely on the Halloween holiday. Upon discovering that there are other festivals too, he falls into the Christmas world and gets acquainted with the idea of Christmas. The way the movie tells the magic of Christmas from a Halloween King's point of view and the emotions involved in celebrating a festival is something that can only be imagined by Tim Burton. But credits go all to the way Jack Skellington who portrayed the role of someone who is fierce yet kind at heart. The scene where Jack and Sally sit together realising that relationships and happiness are far beyond festivals and holidays is evergreen. Considering that the movie came out 23 years ago but the name of the character is still fresh in our minds, Jack Skellington most definitely deserves a spot in the list.

3. Grinch from "How The Grinch Stole Christmas"

Another clever take on Christmas where a Grinch, some green cynical monster who hates Christmas tries to stop the celebrations of the festival at all cost. The Grinch played by Jim Carrey does all he can to stop Christmas to the extent of stealing all the gifts overnight and throwing them down from a mountain. Further down the movie we realise what made the Grinch as such and how it needs someone to console its broken heart. As simple as it may sound, the character reflected Christmas in such a way that it's a day not enjoyed by everyone and there are people that the society has put aside from these celebrations. Grinch also shows that it is the society's duty to make a home for these outcasts and show them the real beauty of Christmas. Due to this amazing message portrayed through a green monster, the cynical character gets a place in the list.

4. Buddy from "Elf"

One of Will Ferrell's best where he plays Buddy, a human child who is raised in the North Pole along with other elves. Upon realising that he is not an Elf but a human, Buddy sets out to find his parents but he ends up finding himself in trouble. Buddy's naïve heart and innocent actions that are mistaken as disturbance in our world is funny but at the same time thought-provoking. It is a surprise that Will Ferrell makes thought-provoking movies, but in this one he really did and the last scene where the whole of New York comes together to help Santa is a Christmas classic. Due to the reason that Buddy reminds us of the true nature of a human and how naturally clueless and kind we humans are, it's only fair for the character to be included in the list.

5. John McClane from "Die Hard"

Oh well, some of you might argue that this is not your typical Christmas movie but in a list where Jake Skellington is considered a Christmas character, John McClane (Bruce Willis) from "Die Hard" has to be accepted. Think about it, the movie takes place during the Christmas celebrations and McClane is the 'Santa' that saves us, but only exception is the gift he brought for us is freedom from the terrorist attack. Plus, who can forget that iconic taunt at the villain that merges both Christmas and action into one, "Now I have a machine gun, ho-ho-ho!"

Similar with the calendars from the previous years, the 2017 calendar features Malaysia’s brave and muscular firemen (and women) in their iconic orange suit, ready to save the day!

“Hopefully, the abang-abang sado (muscular male officers) will show that we are a fit department,” Fire and Rescue Department Corporate Management division Senior Supt Norizan Saad said to The Star.

“From the middle of this year and into next year, we are promoting a ‘Let’s Get Fit’ programme,” he continued.

With their tagline “Cepat dan Mesra” (Quick and Friendly), the calendar highlights some of the tough missions the firemen have to carry out such as rescue work at accident sites, putting out forest fires and airlifting victims from rugged mountain peaks.

“This is to show that our scope of work includes duties outside our core activity, which are firefighting and general rescue services,” he said.

As usual, these calendars are not for sale but are for internal circulation only.

However, members of the public can get their hands on the copies at Bomba-hosted public events. So make sure to stay tuned to their Facebook page!
