Malaysia’s first ever VR (Virtual Reality) / AR (Augmented Reality) theme park is set to open its doors early next year at Empire City Damansara Shopping Mall.

Created by US-based company VR Global Inc, the VR theme park known as “Hero Central Park” is said to be one of the largest VR parks in the world, occupying a total of 170,000 square feet.

“Hero Central Park will be the launch pad for our company to the emerging markets especially ASEAN, India and China,” said CEO of US VR Global Inc Marc-Olivier Franq in a statement obtained by Free Malaysia Today.

“The phenomenon of Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) technologies has spread to Asia and we find the potential growth in this Southeast Asian market particularly exhilarating. It will literally mean the launch of a ‘New Generation Playground’.”

The Malaysia’s location will be the company’s first park, and they plan to build 20 more around Asia as well as 200 to 300 arcades within the next three to five years.

“VR technology has been out there for 20 years now, but in terms of a VR theme park of such a scale, we are one of the first to succeed in turning this into a reality,” Franq continued.

With a building cost of RM100 million, the park could be built within six months, unlike conventional parks, which would normally take years to complete.

The tickets are also said to be so affordable that it will attract people from all segments and represents a great value for money.

“Upin & Ipin” creator is under fire for allegedly sacking comic legend Ujang

$

Creator of “Upin & Ipin”, Les Copaque is currently under fire for the alleged sudden termination of well-known cartoonist Ibrahim Anon, better known as Ujang, as the adviser of that series’ comics magazine.

The ratings of the company on their Facebook page has been dropping drastically from 5 stars to 1 star in less than three days with many leaving distasteful remarks in the comments section with the hashtag “boikotupinipin” trending on social media.

The issue first came to light when Ujang posted a statement on his Facebook about his termination, gaining sympathy from his fans nationwide.

In his post, he mentioned that six years ago, a representative from a small publishing company approached him, asking him to teach them how to publish comics.

Though he refused at first, according to Ujang the representative kept pleading him to join. At first, Ujang requested for a salary of RM15,000 for all the publishing operation and process including pagination, permit application, printing control and others, but since the company is relatively new, they supposedly only paid him RM2,000 per month and hired him as the advisor of the comics.

After six years, as the said company has already gained experience, Ujang said that they decided to fire him with a 24-hour notice via text message. This time, Ujang was doing the begging for them to reconsider, but he says that his request was ignored.

Ujang’s post has sparked rage among many of his long-time comic fans who took to social media to condemn Les Copaque for their supposed inhuman action.

But Les Copaque’s owner and managing director Burhanuddin Md Radzi claimed that they weren’t the one who fired Ujang. The person who took the action was the magazine’s publisher Nyla Sdn Bhd, a licensee of “Upin & Ipin”.

According to Malay Mail, Burhanuddin was not even aware that Ujang was the appointed adviser of the comics.

Things got even more confusing when Nyla’s owner Tunku Maziah Tunku Mukhtar said that her action was under the instructions of Les Copaque production.

“Since two months ago, the content of Upin & Ipin veered off the track. We find that not only are they not relevant to kids, but there is also cooking content inside,” Burhanuddin said as quoted, referring to the comics magazine.

“As a comics publisher, she should suggest how to increase sales. But when she went away and returned, she said the adviser told her to change nothing,” he added, referring to Tunku Maziah.

“We did not direct her [to fire], but if he cannot advise, then no need to be an adviser. That is why she went away and sacked Ujang in 24 hours.”

“Ujang has brought up the issue on social media to get the public’s sympathy, and Les Copaque gets the bad name, we are victims of situation,” Burhanuddin said.

Meanwhile, Tunku Maziah commented that she was being direct with Ujang about terminating his services.

“We were under the impression that this was an amicable parting,” said the director of the publisher, Nyla.

“Considering that we have honoured our agreement for the past seven years despite minimal input on his part, it was disappointing to hear that Ujang took to Facebook with an unwarranted post after collecting the cheque for April’s fee on 5th May 2017,” Tunku Maziah said in a statement.

Since last February, Nyla had decided to restructure the comic magazine to boost sales, but since Ujang was not agreeable to the change, Nyla felt it was in the best interest of the comic magazine to go ahead.

Tunku Maziah added that Nyla had informed Ujang in February that his services would no longer be required in due course.

“We were also upfront in informing him that in view of the continually declining sales of the comic magazine, we had to look at trimming our operating costs. He seemed to acknowledge the fact that cessation, which we subsequently confirmed in mid-April, was inevitable,” she said.

Ujang is an influential figure in the local comics industry. He made his name via the now defunct satire comic magazine “Gila-Gila” with his loose cartoon, “Si Tenggang”, and later released his own magazine using his pen name “Ujang” in 1992.

Netizens question why “The Voice” Malaysia/Singapore is in Mandarin

$

Even though the famous reality singing competition “The Voice” finally arrives in Singapore and Malaysia, many are unhappy that one of the requirements to join the competition is to be able to speak and sing in fluent Mandarin language, despite previously stating that all races are welcomed to join.

This would be a bit hard for many Malaysians and Singaporeans as Mandarin is not even the national language of either country, and even though there are a number of non-Chinese people who can speak Mandarin, majority of them don’t.

People have started to take it out on social media, blasting the show as well as producer mm2 Entertainment for having such a supposed unfair rule which excludes non-Mandarin speakers.

Though many netizens condemned the show, some see it as a marketing strategy geared towards the Chinese market in China and Taiwan, considering how successful Singaporean singer Nathan Harthono got when he sang at “Sing! China”, and the large amount of Chinese fans Malaysian songstress Shila Amzah gained when she won “Asian Wave”.

Producer mm2 Entertainment has since issued a statement obtained by Bandwagon Asia, explaining that the show was only licensed to be produced in Mandarin.

“The Voice is a very successful singing format that has been licensed internationally. In acquiring the format, each market needs to determine the specific language that will be used. As we had announced a few months ago, mm2 Entertainment had acquired the format licence to produce the 'The Voice' in Mandarin in Singapore and Malaysia.

Accordingly, the ability of the contestants to communicate effectively in Mandarin becomes a necessity for the execution of the production, as contestants are required to engage the judges extensively, including during the coaching sessions which are integral to the show format. The show will be broadcast on StarHub (Hub E City) and Astro (AEC) in Singapore and Malaysia respectively.”

Apart from the Mandarin-only requirement, Chinese dialects like Cantonese or Hokkien are also not allowed on the show.

Online auditions are open from now until 31st May. Participants are required to send in a 90-second singing clip to thevoicesgmy.com.

Malaysian pop punk band An Honest Mistake (AHM) has worked together with EDM duo DRPX for their latest single, “If I Told You This Was Real (IITYWR)”.

The collaboration happened when AHM took notice of DRPX’s insane remix of the Subway Chicken Tandoori song, which they loved. Thus, vocalist Darren Teh immediately approached the two DJs for collaboration.

Coming from Kota Kinabalu, DRPX consists of Willy and Brian which has been in the music industry since 2010. Meanwhile, Brian is also a part of another EDM duo called Chukiess & Whackboi.

The music video was edited by The Malaya TV team who’ve previously shot for some of the top local artistes, including Altimet, Ayda Jebat, Aisyah Aziz and more.

The three-minute long music video also features the voice of YouTube singer Sheryl Goh and dancer Nicole Chen who sports the same hair colour as Darren.

In the music video, Darren, DRPX and the others wear glow paint on their faces and arms, making it seems as though they are in some sort of a weird but cool EDM ritual.

“If I Told You This Was Real (IITYWR)” is one of the singles from their forthcoming remix album, “An Honest Mixtape” which will be launched at PMC x Urbanscapes Presents: An Honest Mistake (AHM) Remix Party on 19 May 2017, as part of Malaysia’s biggest art/music festival, Urbanscapes at the newly refurbished The Bee, Publika.

Suffering similar fate to its Singaporean counterpart, Ed Sheeran’s concert tickets in Malaysia were sold out in less than two hours after it had gone on sale.

Tickets to the highly anticipated concert in Kuala Lumpur went on sale this morning on 15 May 2017, 10am via prworldwidelive.com and myticket.asia but were reportedly sold out at 1.20pm.

Pricing between RM198 to RM458, many fans were infuriated that they had to participate in a long cyber-queue but still end up not getting a single ticket at all.

Several fans have confessed that they have been waiting on the site since before 10am and when they are in the online queue, the waiting time starts to increase as time passes.

While some may be lucky enough to get tickets after queuing for so long, others get told that tickets have been sold out when they finally got out of the waiting page.

PR Worldwide Facebook page is currently flooded with complaints from fans who didn’t manage to purchase the tickets due to the flawed system on the site.

In the meantime, while diehard fans are battling hard for their Ed Sheeran concert tickets, unofficial ticket reseller sites like Viagogo are currently selling the tickets for as much as RM8,369!

However, organiser PR Worldwide has issued a statement, saying, "resale of ticket(s) at any price… is strictly prohibited. Unlawful resale of a ticket will lead to seizure and cancellation of that ticket without refund or other compensation. Barcodes from such tickets will be disabled and you will be refused entry".
